Vassar Overwhelms Drew To Open 2025 Season

Three Brewers tally hat tricks

Poughkeepsie, NY – The Vassar College Women's Lacrosse team opened the 2025 season in strong fashion Saturday afternoon with a 17-5 home win over visiting Drew. Three Brewers finished with hat tricks, including Reilly Mulcahy (Arlington, VA) who finished with five points.
 
Saturday's victory moves Vassar to 1-0 to start the season with Drew falling to 0-2 through their first two contests.
 
How It Happened
  • Vassar broke the game open early, outscoring the visitors 8-0 over the first quarter.
  • Mulcahy scored the Brewers' first goal and assisted on the next two tallies as the Brewers opened a 3-0 lead over the opening five-and-a-half minutes.
  • Mulcahy scored her second of the game with just under five minutes left in the opening stanza, giving Vassar a 5-0 advantage.
  • Kali Ringler (North Andover, MA) scored twice late in the first period around the first career goal for Elizabeth Burgess (Columbus, OH).
  • Vassar pushed its scoring streak to 11-0 after goals from Ringer, Karina Gyllenhaal (Beverley, MA) and Amelia Poirier (Atherton, CA) to open the second period scoring.
  • Drew would break through with its only two goals of the first half in the final four minutes with Madi Strong scoring both times.
  • Vassar outscored Drew 4-1 in the third frame, including Mulcahy's third of the game that gave Vassar a 13-2 lead.
  • Burgess finished off a hat trick with a goal with just under 10 minutes left in the final period.
  • First Year Megan Sweeney (Orlando, FL) closed out the scoring for the Brewers with her first career goal at the 7:04 mark of the fourth period.
For The Brewers
  • Mulcahy led four Brewers with multiple points in the game with three goals and a pair of assists.
  • Ringler and Burgess each totaled three goals with Ringler adding three caused turnovers.
  • Tess Billings (Deerfield, IL) closed the win with a pair of goals for the Brewers.
  • Emilia DiLIberto (Allison Park, PA) led Vassar with six draw controls and chipped in a goal.
  • Liz Lange (Upton, MA), Amanda Hahn (LaGrange, IL) and Olivia Del Tatto (Bayville, NY) all picked up two groundballs.
  • Senior Bree MacMullen (Medford, NJ) picked up the win in goal with four saves in just under 39 minutes of work.
  • Cassidy Schuchat (Hopewell Junction, NY) came on to make three stops in her first appearance of the season.
 
For The Rangers
  • Strong scored two goals for Drew.
  • Grace Patane closed the day with a goal and an assist.
  • Aubrey Welch led the team with four draw controls and added two groundballs.
  • Paige Shaw suffered the loss in goal, making six saves.
 
Game Statistics
  • Vassar finished the game with a 28-20 advantage in overall shots and a 24-12 edge in shots on goal.
  • Draw controls went to the Brewers 14-10.
  • Groundballs were even in the game at 13-13.
