Men’s Squash Tripped Up At Fordham

Okulski, Donato score victories for Vassar

Bronx, NY – The Vassar College Men's Squash team suffered its first loss of the season on Sunday, dropping a 7-2 road decision at Fordham. Sophomore Matthew Okulski (Portland, ME) and junior Joseph Donato (Staten Island, NY) were victorious for the Brewers against the Rams.
 
Sunday's loss drops Vassar to 2-1 on the season, while Fordham opens its season at 1-0.
 
For The Brewers
  • Okulski improved to 3-0 on the young season with a 3-1 victory playing at the third position. With the match tied at 1-1, Okulski earned 12-10 and 11-6 victories to secure the win.
  • Playing at nine, Donato outlasted Fordham's Joe Walsh 3-2. Donato rallied from an 0-2 deficit to win the match with 11-8, 11-7 and 11-6 victories over the last three frames.
  • First Year Aqeel Merchant (Arlington, MA), who was named the Liberty League Rookie of the Week on Monday, suffered a hard fought 8-11, 11-2, 9-11, 2-11, 10-12 defeat at the fourth position.
  • First Year Alexander Thorn (Rye Brook, NY) battled for the Brewers in a 3-11, 11-6, 1-11, 8-11 decision at eight.
 
What's Next
  • Vassar is off from competition until November 16 when it takes to the road to tussle with Wesleyan and Brown.
