#19 Brewers Push Winning Streak To Four Games With Shutout Of Union

Brewers reach double-figure wins for second straight season

Poughkeepsie, NY – Seniors Rebecca Rodriguez (Santa Barbara, CA) and Lucy Getzin (Ithaca, NY) scored and sophomore Laura Shea (Swarthmore, PA) recorded her fourth shutout of the season as the #19 Vassar College Women's Soccer team won its fourth straight game after posting a 2-0 home win over Union Wednesday afternoon.
 
Vassar reaches double-figure wins for the second straight season and improves to 10-2 overall and 4-0 in conference play, while Union slips to 7-3-2 overall and 2-1-1 in Liberty League competition.
 
How It Happened
  • Vassar got all the scoring it would need just over six minutes into the contest when Rodriguez opened the scoring at the 6:28 mark.
  • Gianna Panarelli (Jensen Beach, FL) played a ball to the top of the box from the right wing and Rodriguez tucked a shot inside the left post for the early one-goal advantage.
  • First half shots were even on Wednesday with each team getting off seven attempts.
  • Shea kept Union off the board with a trio of first half saves.
  • Union netminder, Maya Koster, was busy before halftime after turning aside five Vassar shots.
  • Vassar went into the break with a 3-1 advantage in corner kicks.
  • Vassar maintained its 1-0 lead until it doubled the advantage in the 77th minute.
  • Rodriguez played a ball into the box that Koster deflected right to Getzin who buried the Brewers' second goal at 76:45 to close out the scoring in the game.
  • The Brewers doubled up Union in shots after halftime 6-3.
  • The Garnet Chargers finished the second frame with a 2-1 edge in corner kicks.
  • Shea made a single save for Vassar after the break.
  • Koster turned aside two Vassar shots in the second half.
 
For The Brewers
  • Rodriguez posted her second straight three-point game for the Brewers, scoring her second goal and adding her team leading sixth assist of the year. Rodriguez ranks fourth on the team with 10 points on the season and is tied for the team lead with two game winning goals.
  • Getzin found the back of the net for the first time since 2023 on Wednesday and pushes her season point total to three.
  • Panarelli picked up her second helper of the season on the game winning goal and moves her point to total to eight on the season.
  • Lucy Hart (Portland, ME) led Vassar with three shots in the game, putting two on target.
  • Getzin and Caroline Sheehan (Springfield, IL) each closed the game with a pair of attempts.
  • Shea recorded her fourth shutout after making four saves on Wednesday. Shea now holds a 0.59 goals against average and an .846 save percentage while making 33 saves to date.
 
For The Garnet Chargers
  • Koster took the loss in goal with seven saves for Union.
  • Taylor Bovardi and Anabelle Thomas led the Garnet Chargers with three shots apiece.
 
Game Statistics
  • Vassar outshot Union 13-10 overall in the game and 9-4 in shots on goal.
  • Corner kicks went to the Brewers by a slim 4-3 margin.
