Brewers Survive Second Half Rally From RIT; Outlast Tigers To Remain Unbeaten At Home

Martinez scores first career goal

Poughkeepsie, NY – A trio of Brewers scored first half goals, including the first career tally and eventual game winning goal from First Year Alejandro Martinez (Lake Mary, FL) in a 3-2 Liberty League victory over RIT Saturday afternoon.
 
Saturday's win marked the sixth time Vassar has scored at least three goals in a game and moves the Brewers to 6-2-2 overall, including 5-0-1 at home, and 2-0-1 in conference play. RIT falls to 4-4-2 overall and 0-2-2 in Liberty League play.
 
How It Happened
  • Vassar struck three times before halftime, netting the first two goals in a span of 5:08.
  • Jared Fiske (Livingston, NJ) opened the scoring in the 21st minute after Gavin Johnson (Cincinnati, OH) found Zapp Hotz (Ridgewood, NY) at the back post who centered to Fiske at 20:49.
  • The Brewers doubled their lead when Fiske found Arden Tobolski (Chapel Hill, NC) near the top of the box and Tobolski deposited a shot at 25:57.
  • Vassar expanded its lead to three goals and carried a 3-0 lead into the intermission when Martinez intercepted a pass and carried the ball to the box and scored for the first time at the 42:34 mark of the contest.
  • The Brewers dominated the opening 45 minutes, holding a 10-1 advantage in shots and a 3-1 edge in corner kicks.
  • Jacob Raphan (Oceanside, NY) held the Tigers off the board with one save.
  • RIT netminder, Kristian Dobbek, finished the opening stanza with four stops.
  • RIT mounted a second half comeback that featured two goals just over six minutes apart.
  • Idriss Diallo opened the RIT account off an assist from Gabriel Zaninetti in the 54th minute to cut the Vassar lead to 3-1.
  • At 59:26, Chris Lee collected a loose ball in the box and tallied to bring the Tigers to within a goal with just over a half hour left in the tilt.
  • Ater the second goal, RIT would manage just three shots the rest of the way without putting an attempt on target.
  • RIT finished the second half with a 5-3 advantage in shots and took four of the five corner kicks awarded.
  • Dobbek made one more save in the second frame for the Tigers.

  • Fiske scored his team leading ninth goal of the season and added his fourth assist to push his season point total to 22.

  • Hotz ranks third on the team with seven points after posting his third helper of the year.
  • Fiske and Tobolski led the team with three shots apiece in the game.
