Brewers Score Key Road Win At RPI; Tobolski Sets Single Season Assist Record

Brewers jump into second-place in conference standings

Troy, NY – Sophomore Arden Tobolski (Chapel Hill, NC) assisted on two goals, setting the program's single season assist record with 13, and the Vassar College Men's Soccer team featured three different goals scorers in a pivotal 3-1 Liberty League road victory at RPI Wednesday night.

With Wednesday's victory, Vassar improves to 9-4-3 overall and 5-1-2 against conference rivals, surging into second-place in the conference standings, just a point off the conference lead, and in position to earn a First Round bye in the upcoming Liberty League Championship. RPI slips to 4-7-5 overall and 1-4-3 in league action.

How It Happened
  • Vassar broke through with the opening goal of the game late in the first half off a corner kick.

  • Vassar went on to double its advantage in the 76th minute when First Year Isaac Taegar (Metuchen, NJ) scored what proved to be the game winning goal.
  • After an initial save, Diego Pastor-Valverde (Durham, NC) played a ball to Jared Fiske (Livingston, NJ) inside the box who found Taegar on the right wing. Taegar scored into a yawning goal at 75:44 to give the Brewers a two-goal cushion.
  • RPI battled back to within a shot with nine minutes left to play when Joshua Jarden found the back of the net off a combination from Sam Shmukler and Owen Filler.
  • Vassar would put the game away in the final minute when Tobolski sent Fiske in alone and Fiske finished off a three-point night with 38 seconds left to play.

  • The Engineers took six of the seven second half corner kicks.
  • Gale made a single second half save for the Brewers.
