Brewers Rally For Road Win At Skidmore

Panarelli scores twice in victory

Saratoga Springs, NY – Junior Gianna Panarelli (Jensen Beach, FL) scored twice, including the game winning goal, as the #25 Vassar College Women's Soccer team scored a pair of goals in the final 20 minutes to score a 3-2 come-from-behind victory at Skidmore Saturday afternoon.  
 
Saturday's victory pushes Vassar to 13-3 overall, matching the most wins in a season on record, and to 7-1 in Liberty League play. The victory also guarantees the Brewers a First Round bye in the upcoming Liberty League Championship.
 
How It Happened
  • The Brewers broke the ice late in the first half when Panarelli tallied off a pass from Ava Holman (St. Louis, MO) at 36:24 to send the Brewers into the intermission with a 1-0 lead.
  • Skidmore outshot Vassar prior to halftime 7-4 and took the only two corner kicks of the opening period.
  • Laura Shea (Swarthmore, PA) held the Thoroughbreds off the board with one save in the first 45 minutes.
  • The Brewers' lead lasted four seconds into the second half when Skidmore scored off of the second half kick-off to even the score. Olivia Chandler leveled the score at 1-1 for the Thoroughbreds.
  • Skidmore edged in front in the 70th minute when Ellianna Caporusso found the back of the net at the 69:43 mark of the contest.
  • Vassar pulled even 2:01 later when First Year Elena Valle (Rocky Hill, CT) scored an unassisted goal at 71:44 to make the score 2-2.
  • Just under four minutes after the Valle tally, Panarelli struck for the second time at 75:36 to push the Brewers in front for good in the game.
  • Skidmore would get off five shots after the Panarelli goal, but could not put one of the attempts on frame.
  • Shea closed the half with another save for the Brewers.
  • Shots in the second half were even at 10-10 with corner kicks going to Vassar by a 3-2 count.
 
For The Brewers
  • Panarelli moved into a tie for second on the team in goals with her sixth and seventh markers of the season. Panarelli scored her third game winning goal of the season and is tied for second on the team in points with 16.
  • Valle scored her third goal of the year and became the sixth Brewer with at least 10 points on the season.
  • Holman picked up her third assist of the season and pushed her team lead in points to 21.
  • Riley McGrath (Coronado, CA) led Vassar with four shots in the game, putting two on frame.
  • Shea picked up the win in goal for the Brewers with two saves in the contest.
 
For The Thoroughbreds
  • Chandler and Caporusso both scored their first goals of the season for Skidmore.
  • Mara Grace led the Thoroughbreds with four shots.
  • Avery Rogers suffered the loss in goal with five saves.
 
Game Statistics
  • Skidmore outshot Vassar overall 17-14.
  • Vassar finished with an 8-4 edge in shots on goal.
  • Corner kicks went to the Thoroughbreds by a slim 4-3 margin.
 
What's Next
  • Vassar closes out the regular season with Senior Day against Clarkson on November 1.
  • Skidmore plays its final regular season game at RIT next Saturday.
