Brewers Sweep Bard, Northeastern To Open Season

Georgallides goes 2-0 at top position

Poughkeepsie, NY – The Vassar College Men's Squash team opened the 2025-26 season on Saturday in strong fashion with 9-0 sweeps over both Bard and Northeastern. Junior Konstantinos Georgallides (Limassol, Cyprus) led the way for the Brewers with a pair of victories at the top position.
 
Vassar 9 – Bard 0
  • The Brewers opened the season with 3-0 sweeps in each of the five matches that were contested.
  • Georgallides scored an impressive 11-2, 11-3, 11-6 over Bard's Miguel Rodriguez at one.
  • Senior Kyle Benson (Bronx, NY) got into the win column in the first match of the season with an 11-2, 11-3, 11-2 triumph for Vassar.
  • At three, sophomore Matthew Okulski (Portland, ME) cruised to an 11-1, 11-0, 11-1 victory against the Raptors.
  • First Year Aqeel Merchant (Arlington, MA) won his collegiate debut in a dominant 11-0, 11-0, 11-0 sweep.
  • Senior Razaan Lalji (West Vancouver, BC) was victorious at five for Vassar, easing to an 11-0, 11-0, 11-1 triumph.
 
Vassar 9 – Northeastern 0
  • The Brewers kept the momentum into the second match, winning all nine contests against the Huskies.
  • Georgallides moved to 2-0 after outlasting the opponent at one 7-11, 11-6, 11-5, 12-14, 11-4.
  • Benson needed four sets to earn his second win of the day, powering to a victory at two by scores of 11-8, 7-11, 11-6, 11-6.
  • Okulski picked up his second sweep of the day in an 11-2, 11-6, 11-3 decision.
  • Merchant also moved to 2-0 for the Brewers after dispatching his opponent at four by scores of 11-4, 11-7, 11-5.
  • Lalji picked up his second sweep of the day against the Huskies, posting an 11-5, 11-2, 11-6 win.
  • Gabriel Lugo (East Hartford, CT) won his first decision of the season at six, rallying from a 2-1 deficit. Lugo won the final two frames by scores of 11-4 and 11-6 to secure the victory.
  • First Year Julian Cardenas-Moncada recorded a reverse sweep, overcoming an 0-2 deficit with 11-7, 11-2, 11-5 wins at seven to move to 1-0 on the season.
  • At eight, rookie Alexander Thorn (Rye Brook, NY) scored an 11-7, 11-5, 11-5 sweep in his collegiate debut.
  • Joseph Donato (Staten Island, NY) found the win column at the ninth slot after battling to a 3-2 win by scores of 8-11, 11-4, 6-11, 11-7, 11-4.
