Vassar Squash Begins Nku Patrick Era Saturday Against Bard, Northeastern

Brewers begin 2025-26 season with two home matches

Poughkeepsie, NY – The Vassar College Men's and Women's Squash programs will play their first matches under new mentor, Nku Patrick, who was named the Betty Richey Head Coach for Men's and Women's Squash tomorrow when they welcome Bard and Northeastern to Kenyon Hall. The Brewers kick-off the season Saturday morning inside Kenyon Hall with live scoring and video available for those unable to attend.
 
Head Coach
  • Patrick comes to Poughkeepsie after most recently leading the squash programs at Northeastern from 2020-25.
  • Patrick played collegiately at Trinity (CT) where he complied a 55-2 overall record.
  • Patrick was made a Second Team All-NESCAC selection and was a two-time National Champion with the Bantams.
 
Men's Team At A Glance
  • The Brewers return six players from last season's team, including seniors Kyle Benson (Bronx, NY) and Razaan Lalji (West Vancouver, BC).
  • Vassar posted an 8-12 overall record a season ago, including a 5-4 win over Hobart at the Liberty League Championship, the program's first victory over the Statesmen since 2006.
  • Lalji posted a team-high 12 victories as a junior in 2024-25 on his way to being named All-Liberty League Honorable Mention.
  • Konstantinos Georgallides (Limassol, Cyprus) played out of the top position in each match a season ago for the Brewers and earned a Liberty League Performer of the Week honor on October 28.
  • Sophomore Matthew Okulski (Portland, ME) was named the Liberty League Rookie of the Week twice a season ago and finished the year with five victories.
  • Gabriel Lugo (East Hartford, CT) won eight decisions as a sophomore in 2024-25 and Benson secured six victories for the Brewers during his junior campaign.
  • Joseph Donato (Staten Island, NY) also returns for Vassar in 2025-26 after posting four wins in six decisions as a sophomore.
  • Vassar welcomes a talented group of newcomers for the upcoming 2025-26 with the additions of Julian Cardenas-Moncada (New York, NY), Aqeel Merchant (Arlington, MA) and Alexander Thorn (Rye Brook, NY).
 
Women's Team At A Glance
  • The Brewers welcome back seven returners from the 2024-25 season.
  • Sophomore Charlotte Tobin (Lakeville, CT) is back after playing out of the top two positions as a rookie a season ago. Tobin posted nine wins for the Brewers, including eight out of the second slot, on her way to being named the Liberty League Rookie of the Week three times and First Team All-Conference.
  • Adriana Ordaya (Hartford, CT) posted six wins for the Brewers as a junior, scoring five victories out of the top position, and was named the Liberty League Performer of the Week on two occasions.
  • Vassar also welcome back Elta Bajrami (Pristina, Kosovo), Sarah Boucher-Rowe (London, UK), Iesha DeSilva (Dayton, MD), Lexi Donshik (West Simsbury, CT) and Nang Eaint May (Troy, NY) from last season's squad.
  • Newcomers to the team include First Years Hope Fireison (Alexandria, VA) and Ariadni Markantonaki Kouletaki.
 
What's Next
  • Following Saturday's competition, both the Men's and Women's teams will travel to Fordham to battle the Rams on November 2.
