Field Hockey Falls in a Shootout at #24 Rochester

Vassar suffers its first conference loss of the season and will return home to take on William Smith on Sunday

Rochester, NY - The Vassar College Field Hockey team suffered its first Liberty League loss of the season as the Brewers fell on the road to #24 Rochester, 3-2, in a shootout at Edwin Fauver Stadium. Vassar's record drops to 8-5 overall and 3-1 in Liberty League play while the Yellowjackets improve to 12-4 on the season and 3-1 in conference action.

How It Happened
  • Vassar took the early lead eight minutes and 46 seconds into the opening period with sophomore Zoe Robinson taking off on a breakaway and going coast-to-coast to score her 11th goal of the season to the back left post to go ahead 1-0.
  • Rochester threatened early in the second period as junior Grace Wiley made a strong stop on Grayson Honig to keep VC ahead 1-0.
  • The Brewers doubled the lead to 2-0 just under four minutes into the second quarter as first year Sierra Chow knocked home her fourth goal of the season on the first collegiate assist from Robinson.
  • The Yellowjackets earned three penalty corners in the final 10 minutes of the first half but were held to just one shot by Ella Krauss, which was turned away by Wiley.
  • Rochester cut the deficit to 2-1 two minutes into the second half on the sixth goal of the season from Honig on a feed from Cassidy Romano.
  • Emilia Parrado's first goal of the campaign on a cross from Elena Mendoza for the Yellowjackets evened the contest at two with about eight minutes remaining in the third quarter.
  • Neither team got a shot on target in the fourth quarter as the game moved into overtime, marking the second game advancing to overtime for Vassar in 2025.
  • VC had the lone shot on goal in the first overtime period following a shot from senior Sofia Beseth that was stopped by a diving save by Rochester goalie Kara Houston.
  • In the second overtime period, Beseth had the lone shot on target halfway through the period but Houston made another stop to send the game to a shootout.
  • Houston made saves on all three of the Brewers attempts in the shootout while Rochester scored three of its four chances with Abigail Mateer scoring the clinching stroke-off.
For The Brewers
  • Robinson scored her 11th goal of the season and tallied her first collegiate assist to improve her team-leading points mark to 23.
  • Chow tallied her fourth goal of the campaign along with Beseth recording three shots, including two on goal.
  • Wiley made three saves in 80 minutes of action while first year Ellie Rosen made a stop in goal during the shootout period.
For The Yellowjackets
  • Honig scored her sixth goal of the season while Parrado tallied her first goal in 2025.
  • Mendoza and Romano each picked up an assist.
  • Houston earned the win in goal as she made three saves on the day.
Game Statistics
  • Rochester held a slim 11-9 advantage in shots while shots on goal were even at five apiece.
  • The Yellowjackets recorded a 14-3 edge in penalty corners.
