Field Hockey Dominates in 6-0 Victory Over Skidmore

Morris scores twice, four other Brewers tally a goal

Saratoga Springs, NY - First year Julia Morris scored two goals along with four other Brewers finding the back of the net to lead the Vassar College Field Hockey team to a dominant 6-0 road conference victory over Skidmore on Saturday afternoon. Vassar has now won three straight games while now sitting at 8-4 overall and 3-0 in Liberty League play and Skidmore falls to 7-7 on the season and 2-2 in league action.

How It Happened
  • VC controlled the game from start to finish as the Brewers got on the board three minutes into the contest on a tally from first year Autumn Dowiak off an insert from classmate Sierra Chow.
  • About two minutes later, senior Sofia Beseth scored her sixth goal of the season to double the Brewers lead to 2-0.
  • The Thoroughbreds threatened early in the second period but senior Gianna Hoover's defensive save on Emma Houff kept the Brewers advantage at two.
  • Morris' first goal of the contest came five minutes into the second quarter on the first career assist from first year Audrey Izzo to push the Brewers lead to 3-0.
  • The Brewers lead expanded to 4-0 in the third period with about two and a half minutes left on Morris' second goal of the game on a pass from junior Karina Hoffman.
  • First year goalie Ellie Rosen entered in net in the fourth quarter and made two early saves to keep the Vassar shutout intact.
  • Sophomore Zoe Robinson hit the double digit mark in goals five minutes into the final quarter as she scored her 10th goal of the season to extend the lead to 5-0.
  • First year Sydney Yu's first career goal with seven and a half minutes remaining in regulation gave Vassar the final 6-0 tally.
For The Brewers
  • Robinson's goal notched her team-leading 10th of the season and extended her points team-high to 20.
  • Beseth recorded her sixth goal of the campaign along with Morris scoring her fourth and fifth goals of the season.
  • Dowiak scored her second goal of the season while Yu found the back of the net for the first time in her career.
  • Izzo (first career), Hoffman and Chow each tallied an assist and Hoover earned her second defensive save of the season.
  • Junior Grace Wiley earned the win in goal and made one save over the first three quarter of action while Rosen made two saves in 15 minutes in net.
For The Thoroughbreds
  • Gianna DiGioacchino and Margaret Heim each recorded three shots with Heim registering two on target.
  • Auriel Gonzalez tallied a defensive save and Allison Morgan made four saves in 25 minutes in goal.
Game Statistics
  • Vassar finished the game outshooting Skidmore 22-10, including 10-4 on goal.
  • The Brewers also held a 10-8 edge in penalty corners.
