Trio In Double-Figures Leads Vassar Past Bard

Regan nets career-high 16 points

Poughkeepsie, NY – Sophomore Maureen Regan (Oak Lawn, IL) recorded a career-high 16 points and was one of three Brewers to score in double-figures on Saturday as the Vassar College Women's Basketball team got back into the win column with a 74-47 home win against Bard. Junior Sierra McDermed (San Antonio, TX) led the scoring attack with a game-high 23 points.
 
Saturday's win improves Vassar's overall standing to 12-5 and its Liberty League mark to 8-2. Bard falls to 2-15 overall and to 0-10 in conference play.
 
First Half
  • After scoring the first six points of the contest, Vassar led wire-to-wire against the Raptors.
  • A McDermed three-pointer with just over three minutes left in the opening frame gave the Brewers their first double-figure advantage at 19-8.
  • An Emery Mullen (Charlton, MA) free-throw with 64 seconds left in the period equaled Vassar's biggest lead to date, sending the Brewers to the second quarter leading 22-11.
  • The Brewers would equal the 11-point advantage three times over the first six-an-a-half minutes of the second period, before a Sophia Ippolito (Cumberland Center, ME) triple pushed Vassar in front 34-22 with 2:54 left before halftime.
  • A trey from Regan with just under a minute left int eh half pushed Vassar in front 37-24 before it went into the intermission with a 37-26 lead.
  • Vassar finished the opening 20 minutes shooting 42.9-percent and went 5-for-14 from three-point range.
  • Bard shot 30.3-percent over the course of the first half and went 2-for-8 from three-point range.
Second Half
  • The Brewers opened a 43-26 lead following a 6-0 run to start the third quarter and would not see its lead dip below 14 points the rest of the way.
  • A McDermed conversion at the 4:20 mark of the third period pushed Vassar in front 47-29.
  • Vassar matched its largest lead of the third quarter at the 51 second mark when a McDermed lay-in made the score 49-31.
  • McDermed opened the fourth quarter scoring with a three-pointer to push Vassar in front 52-33.
  • The advantage grew to 61-40 on an Erin Lovett (Norwalk, CT) conversion with just shy of seven minutes left in the contest.
  • Regan connected on a field goal in the final half minute to give Vassar a game-high 27-point lead and the final 74-47 advantage.
  • The Brewers shot a blistering 83.3-percent from the floor in the fourth quarter and went 5-for-6 from three-point range.
  • Vassar closed the half shooting an efficient 57.1-percent from the floor and an even 50-percent from three-point range.
  • Bard was held to 30.4-percent shooting in the second half and connected on two of its six triple tries.
 
For The Brewers
  • Regan notched a career-high in scoring on 6-for-12 shooting overall and three triples. Regan closed the day with four rebounds and an assist.
  • McDermed led all players in the game with 23 points after going 10-for-18 from the floor with a trio of triples. McDermed rounded out the win with seven rebounds, a block and two steals.
  • Tova Gelb (Sharon, MA) scored 13 points and narrowly missed a triple-double after totaling seven rebounds and a game-high seven assists.
  • Mullen added a career-high eight points and finished with four caroms and two steals.
  • Lovett and Ippolito each recorded six points with Lovett leading the team with eight rebounds to go along with three assists.
 
For The Raptors
  • Erin Tobes paced the team with 16 points, adding six rebounds, three assists and four steals.
  • Maeve Osullivan hauled in eight rebounds and handed out two assists.
  • Aislynn Dixon, Maggy Peyton and Jessica Martin each scored seven points.
 
Game Statistics
  • Vassar closed the win shooting 49.2-percent overall and connected on 10 three-pointers, the second highest total of the season.
  • Bard converted at 30.4-percent overall and went 4-for-14 from behind the arc.
  • Vassar doubled up Bard in points off of turnovers, 14-7.
  • The Brewers controlled the paint with a 34-20 edge in scoring inside.
  • The Brewers posted a 10-0 advantage in transition points.

  • Vassar closed out the season series with Clarkson on January 31.
  • Bard hosts St. Lawrence on Friday.
