Men's Basketball Earns Third Straight Victory Over RIT

Karageuzian posts a career-high 12 points for the Brewers

Poughkeepsie, NY - Sophomore Kreekor Karageuzian scored a career-high 12 points while sophomore Shea Fitzgerald and classmate Avery Lee tallied double digit points to lead the Vassar College Men's Basketball team to its third consecutive victory with a 75-64 triumph over RIT on Saturday afternoon. 

Saturday's victory moves Vassar to 9-5 overall and 5-2 in Liberty League play while the Tigers drop to 6-8 on the season and 2-5 in conference action.

First Half
  • The Tigers roared out to a 14-6 lead to open the contest behind five points each from Brody Brown and Brock Bowen.
  • VC battled back to within one at 19-18 on a jumper from Lee at the 7:54 mark before a tip-in from Kenny Wilburn and a triple from Bowen extended the lead to 24-18.
  • Chase Dickens' triple gave the Tigers its largest lead at 31-22 with 3:39 remaining in the half.
  • Vassar rattled off a 10-0 run behind triples from Fitzgerald and senior Luke Adams along with two lay-ins from Karageuzian to take a 32-31 lead in the final minute of the half.
  • Dickens knocked down another three-pointer right before the end of the first half to give the Tigers a 34-32 lead at the break.
  • The Brewers ended the first half shooting 41.4-percent from the field while being limited to 2-for-13 from three-point range.
  • RIT closed the opening 20 minutes shooting 45.2-percent overall and connected on 6-for-15 from bonus distance.
Second Half
  • The Brewers earned a 40-35 lead just four minutes into the first half on a bucket from Karageuzian.
  • Following a jumper from Fitzgerald that put VC ahead 45-40 at the 14:49 mark, RIT went on an 8-0 run to take a 48-45 lead on two free throws from Josiah Turner.
  • VC responded with a 9-0 run of its own and surged ahead 54-48 following six points from Fitzgerald at the 10:36 mark.
  • The Brewers advantage extended to nine points with 4:51 remaining on a Karageuzian layup until a Turner jumper cut the lead to 67-62.
  • Vassar's lead grew to 11 points after six straight points from Fitzgerald and a lay-in from Lee.
  • The Brewers finished the second half shooting 47.2-percent while connecting on just one three-pointer.
  • RIT was limited to 36-percent from the field in the second half and were held to just 1-for-8 from three.
For The Brewers
  • Fitzgerald cracked the 20-point mark for the 10th time this season with 20 points and added four rebounds, four assists and two steals.
  • Lee tallied 16 points along with Karageuzian registering his career-high 12 points and three boards.
  • Sophomore Nathan Denham finished an all-around day with nine points, a game-high 15 rebounds and five steals.
  • Sophomore Sebastian Medina added eight points, eight boards and four assists while Adams added three points, three assists and three rebounds.
For The Tigers
  • Turner scored a team-high 15 points off the bench and added seven rebounds while Dickens added 14 points, two assists and two steals.
  • Wilburn registered 11 points along with Bowen recording eight points and eight rebounds.
  • Matt Caggiano handed out a team-high four assists while Luke Granto added five points and three assists.
Game Statistics
  • Vassar finished the contest shooting 44.6-percent overall, while shooting just 3-for-22 from three, and connected on 14-for-15 from the free throw line.
  • RIT shot 41.1-percent from the field, including 7-for-23 from three, and finished 11-for-14 from the free throw line.
  • VC held a 19-6 advantage in points off turnovers and outscored RIT in the paint 44-28.
