Women's Volleyball Triumphs in Four Sets Over SUNY Morrisville

The Brewers will return to action on Saturday against Stevens and Muhlenberg

Poughkeepsie, NY - The Vassar College Women's Volleyball team earned a four-set victory on Saturday afternoon at Kenyon Hall as the Brewers took a 17-25, 25-23, 25-22, 25-19 victory over SUNY Morrisville. The Brewers move to 2-4 on the season while the Mustangs falls to 3-3 overall.

FIRST SET
  • The Mustangs used kills from Samantha Siedlecki and Emily Huppee along with an ace from Huppee to take a 8-4 lead to open the set.
  • Vassar trimmed the lead to 10-8 on a winner from senior Molly Ardren before the Morrisville lead grew to 14-8 on an ace from Kayla Sheasby.
  • The Mustangs advantage grew to 19-9 following two kills from Cassandra Bellmore and winners from Huppee and Kayci Olson.
  • VC cut the advantage down to 24-17 following an ace from junior Ellie Kogan and a kill from sophomore Holland Kaplan before Morrisville took the set on a Olson winner.
SECOND SET
  • Following the Mustangs early 5-2 lead, the Brewers used a kill each from Ardren, sophomore Maura McAusland and senior Frannie Anthony-Brumfield to even the set.
  • Both teams traded points through the middle stages of the match before the Mustangs used a three point run to go ahead 14-11 on two kills from Huppee and a block from Autumn Dailey and Adeline Houser.
  • Vassar earned a 17-15 lead after a kill each from Anthony-Brumfield and McAusland and a block from Hale and Ardren.
  • The Mustangs drew even at 19 following a double block from Siedlecki and Bellmore along with winners from Huppee and Siedlecki.
  • Vassar took the second set following blocks from junior Rebecca Gutierrez and Anthony-Brumfield and a solo block from McAusland.
THIRD SET
  • Morrisville took the first five points of the set behind two kills from Olson and a winner from Bellmore before Vassar responded with six straight points, led by two kills each from Gutierrez and McAusland.
  • VC took a 14-11 lead behind a winner from Gutierrez, a block from Ardren and Hale and an ace from Kogan.
  • Morrisville trimmed the advantage down to one following a winner from Dailey before Vassar pushed the lead to 20-15 on a kill and ace from Kaplan along with a Anthony-Brumfield winner.
  • The Brewers lead grew to 22-16 on a winner from senior Morgan Miller and Anthony-Brumfield before Huppee rattled off three straight kills to cut the lead to 22-19.
  • Vassar took the set following a kill each from Ardren and McAusland to go ahead 2-1.
FOURTH SET
  • Vassar went ahead 8-5 as Hale buried a winner along with a service ace from sophomore Franceca Medrano.
  • The lead expanded to 13-5 behind three aces from McAusland and a kill each from Hale and Kaplan.
  • Morrisville trimmed the lead to 15-10 on an ace from Kylie Hutchinson before the Brewers expanded the lead to 18-10 on a Kaplan ace and a winner from Gutierrez and Anthony-Brumfield.
  • The advantage grew to 22-12 on two McAusland kills and an ace from Medrano as the Mustangs cut the lead down to 24-19.
  • McAusland's 16th kill of the match clinched the match victory for the Brewers.
FOR THE BREWERS
  • McAusland recorded 16 kills, three aces, two blocks and 10 digs to lead the way for Vassar while Kaplan added nine kills and three aces.
  • Gutierrez and Hale each had six kills and three blocks while Anthony-Brumfield finished with six kills.
  • Hayes handed out a match-high 20 assists and added five digs along with Ardren adding 17 assists and four blocks.
  • Kogan lifted 10 digs and had two aces along with Medrano tallying seven digs and two aces.
FOR THE MUSTANGS
  • Huppee registered a match-high 19 kills and added eight digs while Olson recorded 10 kills and five digs.
  • Siedlecki finished with seven winners and three blocks along with Bellmore tallying six kills, 20 assists, three blocks and six digs.
  • Sheasby lifted a match-high 20 digs and also added two aces.
UP NEXT
  • Vassar will travel to Muhlenberg next Saturday with a tri-match against Stevens and the Mules beginning at 1:00 p.m.
