Field Hockey Battles Tough Against #22 Wesleyan

Beseth tallies penalty stroke for the Brewers

Poughkeepsie, NY - The Vassar College Field Hockey team fought hard against #22 Wesleyan on Saturday afternoon at Weinberg Field as the Cardinals earned a 4-1 victory over the Brewers. Vassar's record moves to 1-3 overall while Wesleyan improves to 2-0 on the season.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Vassar took the early lead with a penalty stroke goal from junior Sofia Beseth just two minutes and 13 seconds into the opening quarter.
  • The Cardinals drew even at one apiece four minutes into the second period as Annabel Cincotta potted a goal on an assist from Georgia Adams.
  • Sophomore goalkeeper Grace Wiley kept the Brewers even in the second quarter as the sophomore turned four shots to keep it tied.
  • Wesleyan took a 2-1 lead into the halftime break as Adams scored off an assist from Kenzie Mauro following a penalty corner with three minutes left in the period.
  • Adams vied for her second goal of the game to start the third quarter until junior Gianna Hoover made back-to-back defensive saves to keep the deficit at one.
  • Mauro increased the Cardinals lead to 3-1 off a feed from Cincotta six minutes into the third quarter.
  • Kenzie Kelly recorded the final goal of the day for Wesleyan in the early stages of the fourth quarter.
FOR THE BREWERS
  • Beseth tallied her first goal of the season while senior Tori Baker and first year Zoe Robinson each recorded a shot on goal.
  • Wiley made 11 saves in goal while Hoover registered two defensive saves.
FOR THE CARDINALS
  • Cincotta, Adams and Mauro each finished with a goal and an assist.
  • Kelly added a goal while recording six shots and Adams tallied seven shots.
  • Audrey Pace earned the win in goal as she made two saves.
