Field Hockey Falls in Road Action at Montclair State

Brewers return home to take on Smith on Saturday

Montclair, NJ - The Vassar College Field Hockey team hit the road for the first time this season as the Brewers fell 2-0 to Montclair State on Wednesday night at Sprague Field. The Brewers fall to 1-3 on the season while the Red Hawks improve to 3-1 overall.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Neither team recorded a shot on goal in the opening quarter as Montclair's Sadie Eichlin had a shot hit off the crossbar at the 5:49 mark of the first period.
  • To open the second quarter, Emma Bianco fired a shot on goal that was knocked away on a defensive save by senior Alexa Gwyn to keep the game scoreless.
  • Gwyn then recorded the Brewers first shot on goal with eight minutes left in the second period as it was saved by Red Hawks goalkeeper Sydney White.
  • Montclair State scored its first goal of the game with four minutes left in the first half following a penalty corner on a shot from Kylie Compton off a feed from Eichlin.
  • The Red Hawks added its second goal in the third quarter with five minutes remaining in the third period off a penalty corner on a goal from Tori Sutera on another pass from Eichlin.
FOR THE BREWERS
  • Gwyn tallied both shots on goal and also recorded a defensive save while first year Zoe Robinson recorded two shots.
  • Sophomore Grace Wiley registered five saves in goal for Vassar.
FOR THE RED HAWKS
  • Compton and Sutera each scored a goal while Eichlin recorded both assists.
  • Bella Heiser and Natalie Surma each registered three shots along with Eichlin and Compton recorded three shots.
  • White earned the victory in goal and turned away two shots for Montclair State.
UP NEXT
  • Vassar returns home to take on Smith on Saturday afternoon at 2:00 p.m.
  • Montclair State will host Franklin & Marshall on Saturday at 11:00 a.m.
