Brewers Earn Hard Fought Draw At Scranton

Wolf converts penalty late in regulation

Scranton, PA – The Vassar College Women's Soccer team finished off a three-game road trip to open the 2024 season on Saturday afternoon with a hard fought 1-1 draw at Scranton. Sophomore Maddie Wolf (Mars, PA) converted a penalty late in regulation time to bring Vassar even in the tilt.
 
Vassar closes out a challenging road trip with an unbeaten 2-0-1 record with Scranton holding an identical 2-0-1 mark through three contests.
 
How It Happened
  • A tightly contested first half saw the two teams combine for just seven shots.
  • Scranton unleashed five attempts prior to halftime, putting two shots on target.
  • Vassar starting goalkeeper JD Reigrut (Lone Tree, CO) turned aside a pair of Scranton attempts to keep the Royals off the board in the first half.
  • Scranton keeper, Nicole Olson, made a single save over the opening 45 minutes.
  • The Royals also closed the opening stanza with a 3-0 advantage in corner kicks.
  • The game remained scoreless until the 74th minute when Scranton's Faith Schechter finished off an assist from Liv Enderle at 73:36 to open the scoring in the contest.
  • Scranton maintained a one-goal lead until the 86th minute when Vassar found the equalizer from the penalty spot.
  • Following a foul, Wolf buried a penalty attempt for her first goal of the season.
  • After the Brewers knotted the score at 1-1, Scranton would get off two attempts in the final five minutes, but neither attempt would be put on frame.
  • Scranton closed the second half with a 10-9 advantage in shots.

For The Brewers
  • Wolf found the back of the net for the second time in her career on Saturday and became the seventh different Brewer with a goal on the season.
  • Wolf, Grace Romano (Bordentown, NJ) and Liv Ivie (Agoura Hills, CA) all finished the tilt with two shots, including a shot on goal.
  • Gianna Panarelli (Jensen Beach, FL) closed the day with a pair of shots.
  • Cecelia Wager (Brookline, MA) and Noelle Namba (San Francisco, CA) each put a shot on target for Vassar.
  • Reigrut made two first half saves, giving them six stops on the campaign.
  • Shea came on to also make two saves in the second appearance of her young career.
 
For The Royals
  • Schechter scored her first goal of the season for Scranton on her lone shot of the game.
  • Niamh Healy led the team with four shots in the contest.
  • Emily Tantala closed the day with two shots on goal.
  • Olson earned the draw in goal with four saves for Scranton.

  • Scranton closed the day with a slim 15-11 advantage in shots, while shots on goal in the game were even at 5-5.
  • Corner kicks went to the Royals by a 5-1 count.
