Brewers Dominate Western Connecticut, 4-1

Bouggess scores twice in home opener

Poughkeepsie, NY – Senior Madison Bouggess (Swedesboro, NJ) scored twice and six different players finished with at least one point as the Vassar College Women's Soccer team opened the home schedule on Wednesday with a convincing 4-1 victory over visiting Western Connecticut.
 
The Brewers have won each of the last three meetings with the Wolves and stand a 3-0-1 on the season. Western Connecticut slips to 3-2-1 overall.
 
How It Happened
  • Vassar erupted for three goals in the opening 45 minutes, including back-to-back goals 53 seconds apart with just under 10 minutes left before halftime.
  • Noelle Namba (San Francisco, CA) opened the scoring in the 17th minute when she finished off an assist from Riley McGrath (Coronado, CA) at the 16:13 mark of the tilt.
  • Leading 1-0, Alice Crowley (St. Louis, MO) and Bouggess scored less than a minute apart to spread the Brewers' lead.
  • Crowley scored her fifth goal of the campaign, assisted by senior London Wilkes (Santa Monica, CA), at 35:25.
  • Bouggess tallied for the first time in the game, an unassisted goal, at 36:28.
  • Vassar got off four more shots after the Bouggess tally, but went into the intermission with a three-goal advantage.
  • Vassar controlled played over the opening 45 minutes, finishing the first half with a commanding 20-1 advantage in shots.
  • The Brewers took the only three corner kicks before the halftime break.
  • Coming out of halftime, the Wolves got on the board and cut their disadvantage to 3-1 when Suzana Imetovski put away her fourth goal of the year in the 60th minute.
  • The game remained 3-1 until the late stages of the contest when Bouggess potted her second goal of the contest.
  • Gianna Panarelli (Jensen Beach, FL) had a shot blocked to start the play, before Bouggess collected the loose ball and buried a shot into the top right corner to close out the scoring in the game.
  • Vassar closes out the second half with a 14-6 edge in shots.
  • Second half corner kicks went to the Brewers 5-2.
 
For The Brewers
  • Bouggess got into the scoring column for the first time on Wednesday, netting her first two goals of the season. Bouggess led the team in shots with six, including three on goal.
  • Crowley tallied her team leading fifth goal of the season and posted her second game winning goal of the year.
  • Namba scored her first goal of the season, finishing the day with two shots.
  • Wilkes moved into second place on the team in points with five with an assist on the eventual game winning goal.
  • McGrath recorded her second assist of the season.
  • Panarelli picked up her first helper of the season on the game's final goal.
  • JD Reigrut (Lone Tree, CO) earned the win in goal without having to make a save in 45 minutes of work.
  • First Year Olivia Sandrew (San Diego, CA) came on to play the second half and stopped a pair of shots.
 
For The Wolves
  • Imetovski tallied for the fourth time in 2024 and led the team with three shots, including two on goal.
  • Adriana Alfano closed the day with a pair of attempts.
  • Western Connecticut used three keepers in the game with starter Ashlyn Flood turning aside six shots.
 
Game Statistics
  • Vassar dominated shots in the game, 34-7, including 11-3 in shots on goal.
  • Corner kicks went to the Brewers 8-2.
  • Fouls were whistled against Vassar 11-7.
 
What's Next
  • Vassar heads back out on the road Saturday when it travels to Montclair State.
