Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Late Rally Comes Up Just Short Against Brandeis

Hall, Fiske score late in second half

Poughkeepsie, NY – After falling behind 3-0, the Vassar College Men's Soccer team rallied late with goals from Jackson Hall (Washington, DC) and Jared Fiske (Livingston, NJ), but could not find the equalizer in a tough 3-2 home loss to visiting Brandeis Saturday afternoon at Gordon Field.

Saturday's loss closes a three-game homestand to begin the season at 2-1 for the Brewers, while the Judges collect their first win and improve to 1-1-1 through three contests.

How It Happened
  • Brandeis opened a 2-0 halftime advantage with an early goal inside the first 10 minutes of play and a late tally with less than five minutes to go before the intermission.
  • Nico Beninda was responsible for both first half markers for the visitors, finishing off a feed from Aidan Chuang at 9:24 before picking up an unassisted tally at 40:26 to send the Judges into the break with a two-goal advantage.
  • Shots in the opening 45 minutes were even at 5-5 with Vassar talking the only three corner kicks of the first half.
  • Brandeis maintained the two-goal edge until the 79th minute when Ben Vogelman scored what proved to be the game winning goal.
  • Vogelman was on the end of a pass from Maddox Yu at 78:33 to push the visitors in front 3-0 with just under 12 minutes left to play.
  • Trailing by three goals, Vassar started its comeback with Hall's first of the season.
  • Making his season debut, Hall deposited an unassisted goal in the back of the net to cut the disadvantage to 3-1 at 86:06.
  • The Brewers got a goal closer three-and-a-half minutes later when Fiske scored his fourth goal of the season with 24 seconds left to play. First Year Gavin Johnson (Cincinnati, OH) picked up the assist on the tally.
  • Vassar would be unable to get an attempt off following the ensuing kick-off with Brandeis holding off the late charge.
  • Vassar outshot Brandeis 9-4 after the break and took five more corner kicks in the second half.
