Late Tallies Send Vassar Past New Paltz, 2-1

Torrey, Tobolski score in final 10 minutes

New Paltz, NY – Eli Torrey (Philadelphia, PA) and Arden Tobolski (Chapel Hill, NC) scored just over a minute apart late in the second half to lead Vassar to a hard fought 2-1 road win at New Paltz Wednesday afternoon.
 
Wednesday victory, the Brewers' third in the last four outings against the Hawks, pushes Vassar to 3-1 overall on the season. Wednesday's loss drops New Paltz to 1-4 through the season first five contests.
 
How It Happened
  • New Paltz opened the scoring in the early going, getting a Brandon Dhanoolal unassisted marker at the 18:29 mark of the contest to give the Hawks a 1-0 advantage.
  • The Hawks carried the one goal advantage into the intermission with shots even at 4-4.
  • Gavin Johnson (Cincinnati, OH) accounted for the Brewers' final shot of the half, forcing a save with just three seconds left before halftime.
  • While shots were even over the first 45 minutes, New Paltz dominated corner kicks 9-2 heading into the intermission.
  • New Paltz maintained the one-shot lead until the late stages of the second half when Tekin and Tobsoli scored just 67 seconds apart.
  • Torrey evened the score at 1-1 in the 81st minute when he deposited his first goal of the year at 80:45 of the contest, finishing off a crossing pass from Koray Tekin (Winter Park, FL).
  • Tobsolski followed up with his fifth goal of the year at 81:52 to push the Brewers in front for good in the game, taking a long feed from Mauricio Margiotta (Rochester, NY).
  • Tobsolski put another shot on target that was turned aside with just under three minutes left to play.
  • Vassar outshot New Paltz 6-4 in the second half and did not allow an attempt over the final 16 minutes of the game.
  • Vassar turned the tables in corner kicks after halftime, finishing the second half with an 11-3 edge.
 
For The Brewers
  • Torrey found the back of the net for the first time in 2024 and recorded his third career tally.
  • Tekin picked up his first point of the season, helping on the equalizer. 
  • Tobolski scored his team leading fifth goal of the season and tallied his first career game winning goal. Tobsolski, who leads the team in points with 11, led the Brewers with three shots in the game.
  • Margiotta recorded the first point of his career after helping on the game winning goal. 
  • Johnson, Jackson Allen (Chapel Hill, NC) and Jackson Hall (Washington, DC) all finished the afternoon with a shot on goal.
  • Jacob Raphan (Oceanside, NY) turned aside four New Paltz shots to earn the win in goal for Vassar.
 
For The Hawks
  • Dhanoolal scored his first goal of the season and finished with a pair of shots.
  • Ryan Zindler closed the game with two shots on goal.
  • Colin Brant added a shot on target for the Hawks.
  • Christian Micheli suffered the loss in goal, making four stops for New Paltz.
 
Game Statistics
  • Vassar finished the game with a slim 10-8 advantage in overall shots, including a 7-6 edge in shots on goal.
  • The Brewers took the corner kick battle by a 13-12 margin.
  • Fouls in the contest were whistled 12-6 against New Paltz.
