Vassar Overwhelms Bard In Liberty League Opener

Two Brewers net hat tricks, Reigrut posts second career shutout

Poughkeepsie, NY – First Year Alice Crowley (St. Louis, MO) and sophomore Grace Romano (Bordentown, NJ) each tallied a hat trick and senior goalkeeper, JD Reigrut (Lone Tree, CO), recorded the second shutout of their career on Wednesday as the Vassar College Women's Soccer team posted a convincing 10-0 home win over Bard in its Liberty League opener.
 
Wednesday's win pushes Vassar to 5-1-2 overall on the season and 1-0-0 in Liberty League play while extending its winning streak against the Raptors to seven games. Bard falls to 2-4-1 overall on the year and 0-1-0 in conference play.
 
How It Happened
  • The Brewers scored five goals in each half to reach double figures in tallies for the first time since scoring 14 goals against Mount Saint Vincent on September 2, 2009.
  • The eventual game winning tally came on a Bard Own Goal at the 15:51 mark of the contest.
  • Madison Bouggess (Swedesboro, NJ) would convert a penalty kick at 23:34 to push the lead to 2-0 with her first of two goals in the game.
  • Romano and Crowley got on the board with their first goals of the game just over a minute apart in the middle stages of the first half.
  • Romano cashed in an assist from Jessica Bowman (Larchmont, NY) at 26:50 to give the Brewers a 3-0 advantage.
  • Crowley potted her first of the game 1:18 later when she took another pass from Bowman and found the back of the net to push the lead to 4-0.
  • Romano closed out the scoring in the first half in the 39th minute when she tucked a feed from Crowley home at 38:21.
  • Vassar closed out the first half with a 22-0 advantage in shots.
  • First half corner kicks went to the Brewers by a 4-0 count.
  • Coming out of halftime, Vassar kept the pressure on and moved the lead to 6-0 on a Riley McGrath (Coronado, CA) tally. McGrath finished off Crowley's second assist of the game at 55:17.
  • Crowley closed out the hat trick with back-to-back goals 2:06 apart to push the Brewers in front 8-0.
  • Crowley's second goal was assisted by Allie Foote (West Chester, PA) at 62:46 before she finished off an unassisted goal at 64:52.
  • Romano finished off her hat trick at the 72:15 mark after she was on the end of a passing play with Noelle Namba (San Francisco, CA) and Mollie McLaughlin (Seattle, WA).
  • The Brewers closed out the scoring in the game with just over 12 minutes left to play when Bouggess scored for the second time, finishing an assist from Namba at 77:42.
  • Vassar rounded out the second half with a 13-2 advantage in shots.
  • The Brewers doubled up Bard in corner kicks after halftime, 4-2.
 
For The Brewers
  • Crowley posted her second career hat trick and finished the game with eight points, tied for the third highest single game point total in program history. Crowley pushed her team-high in goals to nine and with two helpers improves her team leading point total to 20.
  • Romano scored the first three goals of her career on Wednesday, moving into a tie for third on the team in markers.
  • Bouggess posts her second multiple goal game of the season and moves into second on the squad with four tallies.
  • McGrath scored for the second straight game and stands with three goals and eight points through eight contests to date in 2024.
  • Bowman recorded a pair of helpers in the game, giving her three assists to date in 2024.
  • Namba recorded two helpers in a game for the second time this season and pushes her season point total to four.
  • McLaughlin recorded her first career point with an assist on Romano's third tally.
  • Foote recorded her first point of the season with a helper on Crowley's second marker.
  • Reigrut earned the second shutout of their career on Wednesday, making one save in the second half. Wednesday's clean sheet is the first for Reigrut since blanking Stevens on September 21, 2021.
 
For The Raptors
  • Bard goalkeeper Seymone Rosenberg closed the contest with six saves.
  • Alexandria Loner and Waleska Brito each posted a shot, with Brito putting a shot on target.
 
Game Statistics
  • Vassar finished the day with a commanding 35-2 advantage in shots, including a 16-1 edge in shots on goal.
  • The Brewers controlled corner kicks 8-2.
  • Fouls in the contest went against the visitors 7-6.
