Field Hockey Falls Late to Ramapo

Vassar returns home to take on #5 Christopher Newport on Saturday

Mahwah, NJ - The Vassar College Field Hockey team evened the score at one apiece two minutes into the fourth quarter until Ramapo scored with eight minutes left in the game to earn a 2-1 victory over the Brewers. Vassar's record moves to 2-6 on the season while the Roadrunners move to 2-6 overall.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Vassar put the shot on goal in the first quarter as first year Zoe Robinson's shot was turned away by Ramapo goalie Michelle Kukan with four minutes left in the quarter.
  • Ramapo had a shot fired on net from Morgan Trotter that was saved by Brewers sophomore goalkeeper Grace Wiley to keep it scoreless after one.
  • The Brewers dominated the chances in the second quarter as Robinson's shot was saved by Ramapo defender Jesslyn Patricia early in the period before senior Alexa Gwyn's shot was saved late in the quarter to keep the game scoreless at half.
  • The Roadrunners scored early in the second half as Victoria Chavez found the back of the net off the feed from Patricia two minutes and 20 seconds into the third quarter.
  • Vassar recorded three more shots on goal in the third quarter but Kukan turned them all away to keep a 1-0 lead after three.
  • The Brewers evened the score at one in the opening minutes of the fourth as first year Mackenzie Allen scored her first career goal off a Gwyn assist.
  • Ramapo answered four minutes later on a Eliana Momm goal that came off a feed from Kayla Gray.
  • VC recorded eight shots on goal in the final six minutes but Kukan made saves on each one to earn the 2-1 victory.
FOR THE BREWERS
  • Allen scored her first goal of the season and registered three shots while Gwyn recorded her team-leading third assist of the campaign.
  • First year Ava Salvati registered five shots (four on goal) along with Robinson firing five shots on net and sophomore Karina Hoffman recording four shots.
  • Wiley made five saves in goal for Vassar in the loss.
FOR THE ROADRUNNERS
  • Momm tallied the game-winning goal with four shots on the day while Chavez buried a goal on her lone shot.
  • Patricia finished with an assist and a defensive save along with Gray adding an assist.
  • Kukan made an oustounding 13 saves in the victory in goal for Ramapo.
GAME STATISTICS
  • Vassar outshot Ramapo 23-10 on the day while also holding a 15-7 edge in shots on goal.
  • The Brewers also held a 13-5 advantage in penalty corners.
