Vassar Outlasts Oneonta, 2-1

Panarelli, Crowley net second half goals

Poughkeepsie, NY – Sophomore Gianna Panarelli (Jensen Beach, CA) and First Year Alice Crowley (St. Louis, MO) scored just under 13 minutes apart in the second half and it proved to be enough as the Vassar College Women's Soccer team remained unbeaten on the season with a 2-1 non-conference home win over Oneonta Wednesday afternoon.
 
Wednesday's win pushes Vassar to 4-0-2 overall on the season and gives the Brewers three straight wins in the series with Oneonta and five victories in the last six games dating back to 2017. Oneonta drops to 0-4-1 overall on the season.
 
How It Happened
  • The two teams played a scoreless first half on Wednesday with Vassar, but Vassar controlled play with a 12-3 advantage in shots.
  • Oneonta finished the first half with the only three corner kicks.
  • Vassar starting goalkeeper JD Reigrut (Lone Tree, CO) made two saves in the opening 45 minutes to keep the Red Dragons off the board.
  • Oneonta keeper Bryanna Meehan was forced to make six stops to keep the game scoreless at the break.
  • Coming out of halftime, Vassar broke the ice with the first goal of the game in the 52nd minute.
  • First Year Liv Ivie (Agoura Hills, CA) played a ball inside the box to Panarelli who deposited her third goal of the season to give the Brewers a 1-0 lead at 51:52.
  • Leading 1-0, Vassar doubled its lead 12:59 later when it was awarded a penalty kick following a foul in the box.
  • Crowley stepped to the spot and buried her fourth goal of the season to make the score 2-0 at the 64:51 mark of the contest.
  • Vassar maintained the two-goal advantage until the 77th minute when Oneonta broke through and cut its deficit to 2-1.
  • Sara Kealey played a ball into the box that deflected off a defender and onto the foot of Kaiden Ring who scored for the second time this season at 76:27.
  • Oneonta would get off two more shots after the goal, putting one on target.
  • Vassar finished the second half with a decisive 19-3 edge in shots, adding a 5-1 advantage in corner kicks.
  • Meehan made four more saves in goal for Oneota after halftime.
  • First Year Laura Shea (Swarthmore, PA) came on to the play the second half in goal and made one stop.  
 
For The Brewers
  • Crowley potted her team leading sixth goal of the season and pushed her team lead in game winning goals to three and points to 12.
  • Panarelli found the back of the net for the third time, moving into second place on the team in markers and points with seven.
  • Crowley and Panarelli were each tied for the team lead in shots in the game with six.
  • Ivie recorded her second assist of the season on Vassar's first goal of the game, moving into a tie for fourth on the team in points with four.
  • Grace Romano (Bordentown, NJ) and Madison Bouggess (Swedesboro, NJ) each finished with four shots with Romano registering a shot on goal.
  • Reigrut earned the win in goal with two first half stops, earning their second victory of the season.
  • Shea made her second career appearance for Vassar and finished with one save.
 
For The Red Dragons
  • Ring scored her team leading second goal of the season in the second half.
  • Kealey picked up her first career point with the helper on Ring's tally.
  • Meehan was busy in goal, stopping 10 Vassar shots on the day.
 
Game Statistics
  • Vassar held a commanding 31-6 advantage in overall shots, including a 12-4 edge in shots on goal.
  • Corner kicks went to the Brewers by a slim 6-4 margin.
