Field Hockey's Comeback Falls Just Short Against Kean

Baker scores two goals in the narrow loss

Union, NJ - The Vassar College Field Hockey team's comeback fell just short on Tuesday evening as the Brewers fell 4-3 on the road against Kean in non-conference action. The Brewers record falls to 2-4 on the season while the Cougars improve to 3-4 overall.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Kean threatened first in the opening two minutes of the first quarter as sophomore goalkeeper Grace Wiley turned away back-to-back shots from Maddison Gonzales and Adrianna Duda to keep the game scoreless.
  • Senior Tori Baker put the Brewers ahead 1-0 just three minutes and 20 seconds into the opening period with her second goal of the season.
  • The Cougars evened the score at one just under three minutes later as Kean earned a penalty corner with Duda scoring off an assist from Shannon Conroy.
  • Kean took its first lead of the contest with two and a half minutes remaining in the quarter on a Kelsey Corbett goal to make it 2-1.
  • Just before the end of the first quarter, the Cougars recorded their third goal of the game with Gonzales scoring her first goal of the contest on a feed from Conroy.
  • Following a scoreless second quarter, the Brewers cut the lead to one off a penalty corner as junior Sofia Beseth tallied her fourth goal of the season off an assist from senior Alexa Gwyn.
  • Kean looked to double its lead once again in the early minutes of the fourth quarter as Wiley made a save on Kelseigh Sargant and junior Margo Gramiak made a defensive save on a shot from Conroy.
  • Vassar drew even at three all following a penalty corner as Baker recorded her second goal of the night off the second assist of the game from Gwyn with 10 minutes remaining in regulation.
  • Kean regained the lead with six minutes left in the fourth quarter as the Cougars earned a penalty stroke and Madison Brege knocked home the goal to make it 4-3.
FOR THE BREWERS
  • Baker scored twice for Vassar to move to second on the team in goals with three.
  • Beseth moves her team lead in goals to four while Gwyn recorded two assists to hold the team high on the season.
  • Gramiak made her first defensive save of the season and Wiley made six saves in net.
FOR THE COUGARS
  • Duda, Gonzales, Corbett and Brege each tallied a goal while Conroy recorded both assists for the Cougars.
  • Daniella Maresca earned the win in goal as she made two saves on the night.
GAME STATISTICS
  • Kean outshot the Brewers 16-9, including 11-5 on goal.
  • The Cougars held a 7-4 edge in penalty corners.
