Women’s Soccer Battles To Draw At #RV Montclair State

Panarelli nets second half goal

Montclair, NJ – The Vassar College Women's Soccer team was back on the road for the fourth time in five games Saturday afternoon and came away with a hard earned 1-1 draw at #RV Montclair State. Sophomore Gianna Panarelli (Jensen Beach, FL) provided the goal with First Year Olivia Sandrew (San Diego, CA) making four stops in goal.
 
Saturday's result keeps Vassar unbeaten on the season and moves the Brewers to 3-0-2 through five contests. Montclair State stands at 1-2-3 overall on the season.
 
How It Happened
  • Montclair State opened the scoring in the eighth minute to grab an early 1-0 lead.
  • Aileen Cahill knocked in a pass from Emmi DeNovellis at the 7:33 mark of the contest for the only goal of the opening 45 minutes.
  • Montclair State went into the intermission with a 9-5 advantage in shots and also controlled first half corner kicks, 5-1.
  • Sandrew kept the Red Hawks to just the one goal with four first half saves.
  • Vassar wasted little time knotting the scoring coming out of the break.
  • Panarelli converted a penalty kick just under four minutes into the second half, potting her second goal of the season.
  • Vassar limited Montclair State to just four shots after halftime, including a shot from Nicole Ricci that sailed high to the left in the closing seconds.
  • The Brewers closed the second half with a 5-4 edge in shots.
  • Vassar took two of the three corner kicks in the second half.
 
For The Brewers
  • Panarelli moved into a tie for second on the team in goals with the penalty conversion and to a tie in second on the team in points with five.
  • Madison Bouggess (Swedesboro, NJ) led the team with four shots, including three on target.
  • Noelle Namba (San Francisco, CA) finished the day with two attempts.
  • Alice Crowley (St. Louis, MO) joined Panarelli with a shot on goal.
  • Sandrew closed the day with four stops, moving her save percentage on the season to .778 and her goals against average to an even 1.00.
 
For The Red Hawks
  • Cahill scored her second goal of the year for the only Montclair State marker.
  • DeNovellis was the only other player with a point in the contest.
  • Cahill and Shannon Mullins each finished the day with three shots, including two on target.
  • Salange Bell turned aside four shots in goal for Montclair State.

  • Montclair State finished with a 13-10 advantage in overall shots, while shots on goal in the game were even at 5-5.
  • Montclair State doubled up Vassar in corner kicks, 6-3.
