Annandale-on-Hudson, NY – The Vassar College Men's Tennis team opened the 2024-25 season in strong fashion with a 7-0 sweep of Liberty League rival Bard Friday afternoon. The Brewers closed the match surrendering just two games to the Raptors.
Friday's win begins the season at 1-0 for the Brewers and gives them a 13th straight victory over Bard. The Raptors fall to 0-2 both overall and in league competition.
Doubles
- The Brewers dropped just one game over the three doubles contests on Friday.
- The top pair of Fernando Bauermeister (Winter Park, FL) and Henry Zhang (Zhengzhou, China) posted a convincing 6-1 win at the top position.
- Arnav Agostinho (Brooklyn, NY) and James Balon (Winnetka, IL) made their season debut at the second doubles slot and posted a 6-0 shutout.
- At the third position, Pedro Cattaruzzi (Chatham, NJ) and First Year Joseph Braun (Albuquerque, NM) cruised to a 6-0 victory for the Brewers.
Singles
- Zhang was in action at the top flight for the Brewers and eased to a 6-0, 6-0 sweep for Vassar.
- Agostinho produced a 6-1, 6-0 second singles victory on Friday against the Raptors.
- Balon was in action at the third slot for Vassar and blanked Bard's Yashar Khan 6-0, 6-0.
- Braun made his singles debut for Vassar and Friday and cruised to a 6-0, 6-0 victory.
- Cattaruzzi posted a similar 6-0, 6-0 victory at the fifth slot.
