Field Hockey Drops Home Matchup Against SUNY Geneseo

Wiley tallies nine stops in net

Poughkeepsie, NY - The Vassar College Field Hockey team fell 5-0 at home on Saturday afternoon against SUNY Geneseo in non-conference action at Weinberg Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Knights got on the board for the first time with just under two minutes remaining in the opening quarter on the shot from Sam Lewis after back-to-back saves from sophomore goalie Grace Wiley.
  • Lewis scored her second goal of the game five minutes into the second quarter before Ava Harman gave the Knights a 3-0 lead on an assist from Emily Cortese.
  • Lewis completed her hat trick with a goal 15 seconds into the third quarter.
  • Vassar had two strong chances from junior Sofia Beseth and first year Zoe Robinson that were saved from Lily Spitz.
  • Ella Greico closed the scoring for SUNY Geneseo in the early stages of the fourth period.
FOR THE BREWERS
  • Beseth tallied two shots on goal while Robinson and senior Alexa Gwyn each fired a shot on net.
  • Wiley made nine saves in goal for the Brewers.
FOR THE KNIGHTS
  • Lewis finished with a hat trick while Harman added a goal and an assist.
  • Greico registered a goal while Shannon Cunningham tallied three shots on goal.
  • Spitz earned the victory in net and made four saves for the shutout.

  • Vassar will play host to Wesleyan on Saturday afternoon at 12:00 p.m.
