Crowley Nets Hat Trick; Offense Erupts In Season Opening Victory At Elms

First Year scores three times in first career game

Chicopee, MA – First Year Alice Crowley (St. Louis, MO) scored three times and classmate Diana Loera (Chula Vista, CA) tallied twice as the Vassar College Women's Soccer team opened the 2024 in strong fashion with an 8-0 road win at Elms Friday night.
 
Friday's win pushes Vassar to 1-0 and gives it a victory in its first game of the season for the second straight year. The Brewers move to 5-0 all-time against Elms with Friday's matchup the first between the two sides since a 6-1 Vassar win in Poughkeepsie on September 17, 2011.
 
How It Happened
  • Vassar opened the game up early on Friday, scoring three times in the first 10:30 of the tilt and six times before halftime.
  • First Year Liv Ivie (Agoura Hills, CA) scored what proved to be the game winning goal off an assist from Noelle Namba (San Francisco, CA) just over three minutes into the contest.
  • Rebecca Rodrguez (Santa Barbara, CA) and Gianna Panarelli (Jensen Beach, CA) followed with goals just over four minutes apart to push the Brewers in front 3-0.
  • Loera found the back of the net for the first time in the 23rd minute with Crowley scoring back-to-back goals late in the first half to give Vassar a commanding 6-0 halftime advantage.
  • Vassar controlled the play over the opening 45 minutes, holding a 23-1 advantage in shots and a 2-0 edge in corner kicks.
  • The Brewers tacked on two more goals after halftime with Loera scoring for a second time in the 50th minute off of Namba's second helper of the night.
  • Crowley completed the hat trick in the 74th minute to finish off the scoring in the game.
  • Vassar unleashed 15 more shots after halftime on Friday and took the only three corner kicks of the second stanza.
 
For The Brewers
  • Crowley opens her career with a team-high three goals on five shots.
  • Loera begins her collegiate career with a multiple goal game, scoring twice on four attempts.
  • Namba helped on a pair of goals for the Brewers.
  • Ivie picked up her first career marker, the game winning goal on Friday.
  • Panarelli and Rodriguez each scored for the first time on the season.
  • Jessica Bowman (Larchmont, NY) assisted on a goal for her first point as a Brewer.
  • Crowley, Ivie and Madison Bouggess (Swedesboro, NJ) each led the team with five shots apiece.
  • JD Reigrut (Lone Tree, CO) and Olivia Sandrew (San Diego, CA) combined on the shutout in goal with each keeper making a single save in 45 minutes of work.
 
For The Blazers
  • Kelly Malheiro and Jordan Lee each finished the night with a shot, with each attempt on target.
  • Mackenzie Quick was busy in goal for Elms, closing the night with 14 saves.
 
Game Statistics
  • Vassar posted a 38-2 advantage in overall shots and a 22-2 edge in shots on goal.
  • The Brewers took each of the five corner kicks awarded in the contest.
  • Fouls were called 74 against Elms.
