Brewers Downed At #5/5 St. Lawrence

Quinn makes 17 saves in goal

Canton, NY – The Vassar College Men's Lacrosse team continued the Liberty League gauntlet Saturday afternoon, falling on the road at #5/5 St. Lawrence by a score of 14-5. TJ Carl (Rochester, NY) led the scoring attack with two goals and Drew Quinn (Garden City, NY) made a season-high 17 saves in goal for the Brewers.
 
Saturday's defeat drops Vassar to 7-4 overall on the season and to 1-3 in Liberty League play, while the Saints remain unbeaten at 11-0 overall and 3-0 against conference rivals.
 
How It Happened
  • St. Lawernce jumped out to a 4-0 through 15 minutes of play, with Zack Corsi closing out the first period scoring with 11 seconds left in the frame.
  • Bobby Wells potted a player-up goal to open the second period scoring, pushing the Saints in front 5-0 just over a minute into the quarter.
  • Vassar got on the board with an Ian Zumpano (Towson, MD) marker just under three minutes into the second quarter.
  • St. Lawrence responded with the next three goals before Shane O'Hara (Warrenton, VA) finished off a feed from Nate Johnson (Brentwood, TN) to make the score 8-2 heading into the intermission.
  • St. Lawrence closed the first half with a 25-13 advantage in shots.
  • The Saints won 10 of the 12 first half face-offs and posted a 25-17 edge in groundballs prior to halftime.
  • Each team scored twice in the third frame with Dan Negron (Mahwah, NJ) and Carl scoring back-to-back goals to make the score 9-4 with just shy of a minute left in the period.
  • The Saints got a late goal from Ben Hutchinson to carry a 10-4 advantage in to the final stanza.
  • St. Lawrence outscored Vassar 4-1 in the final frame with Carl accounting for the goal off a pass from Ryan Metz (Kenmore, WA) with 3:24 left to play.
  • Ben Kniskern scored just over a minute later to finish off the scoring in the game and give the Saints the final nine-goal cushion.
 
For The Brewers
  • Carl pushed his team lead in goals to 24 on the season with two tallies on Saturday.
  • Negron, O'Hara and Zumpano all finished with a marker for Vassar.
  • Jon Bradbury (New Rochelle, NY), Johnson and Metz all recorded assists in the game.
  • Metz joined Kieran Chai-Onn (Rockville, MD) with a team-high two caused turnovers.
  • Jack Palmer (Atlanta, GA) and Solomon Hess (Brewster, NY) each accounted for a caused turnover and five groundballs.
  • Troy Santise (Washington Township, NJ) forced a turnover and collected four groundballs.
  • Eli Sherman (San Francisco, CA) won five face-offs for the Brewers and secured two groundballs.
  • Quinn turned aside a season-high 17 shots and finished with double-figures in saves for the eighth time this season and for the fifth time in the last six contests.
 
For The Saints
  • Hutchinson led the way for St. Lawrence with two goals and a pair of helpers to go along with two groundballs.
  • Brian Souza and Judge Murphy each posted a goal and two assists.
  • Tripp Clark forced a game-high six turnovers and picked up seven groundballs.
  • Paddy Condon went 13-for-18 in face-offs for St. Lawrence and secured eight groundballs.
  • Michael Marinello earned the win in goal with eight stops in 54:30 worth or work.
  • Andrew Vona made a pair of saves in five-and-a-half minutes of action.
 
Game Statistics
  • St. Lawrence held the advantage in overall shots 53-31 and shots on goal 31-15.
  • The Saints controlled face-offs, 17-6, and groundballs 43-29.
  • Vassar went 19-for-22 in clearing chances.
