Baseball Falls in Series Finale Against Utica

Vassar will take on Mount Saint Vincent on Wednesday

POUGHKEEPSIE, NY - The Vassar College Baseball team fell in the series finale to non-conference foe Utica, 11-2, on Sunday afternoon at Prentiss Field. The Brewers move to 10-17 overall while the Pioneers improve to 10-20 on the season.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • A pitcher's duel broke out in the first four innings as Vassar first year Will Darrell and Utica starter Frederick Callo Jr. put up zeros through the first four and a half innings.
  • Vassar got on the board in the bottom of the fifth as junior Luke Barrientos led off with a single and was plated on a two-out RBI single from sophomore Jensen Bergman.
  • Utica answered in the top of the sixth when Dom Fasolo knocked in a run on a sacrifice fly followed by a two-out RBI single from Jack Scanlon.
  • The Brewers drew even in the bottom half of the inning as senior Reid Lapekas singled to lead off the inning followed by a double down the right field line. Junior Marc Milano knocked in Lapekas with a sacrifice fly to tie it at two.
  • The Pioneers put up eight runs in the top of the seventh as Joe Crossley doubled home two runs followed by a two-RBI double from pinch-hitter Andrew Salbinski, RBI singles from Scanlon and Josh Duval and a two-RBI single from Jason Story.
  • Utica added a run in the ninth with a RBI groundout from Jacob Scalise.
FOR THE BREWERS
  • Bergman finished 3-for-4 with a run batted in while Lapekas and Barrientos each had a hit and a run scored.
  • Junior Birch Herring-Jackson and Silvera each added a hit while Milano drove in a run.
  • Darrell took the no-decision for Vassar as he tossed 5.2 innings, allowing four hits, two runs, four walks and struck out five.
  • Sophomore Cade Terada-Herzer took the loss in relief as he threw 0.2 innings, allowing four runs, two hits, one walk and struck out one.
FOR THE PIONEERS
  • Scanlon finished 3-for-4 with two RBI while Duval, Story and Crossley all tallied two hits and two RBI to lead Utica.
  • Salbinski added two RBI and a double while Longeretta added a hit and two runs scored.
  • Callo earned the win on the mound as he went seven innings, scattering seven hits, two runs, one walk and struck out eight.
  • Connor Ford tossed two scoreless innings in relief as he gave up two hits and struck out two.
UP NEXT
  • Vassar will play host to Mount Saint Vincent on Wednesday afternoon at 4:00 p.m. at Prentiss Field.
  • Utica travels to SUNY Poly on Wednesday for a non-league matchup.
