Women’s Lacrosse Stumbles At RPI

Six different players score for the Brewers

Troy, NY – The Vassar College Women's Lacrosse team closed out its second back-to-back weekend of the spring on Saturday with a 14-6 road loss at RPI. Six different players scored a goal in the game with Tess Billings (Deerfield, IL) and Lola Wright (Palisades, NY) leading the team with two points apiece.
 
Saturday's defeat drops Vassar to 3-11 overall on the season and 2-7 in Liberty League play, while RPI improves to 6-6 overall and 5-3 against conference rivals.
 
How It Happened
  • A tightly contested first 15 minutes saw the Engineers take a slim 3-2 advantage into the second quarter.
  • A Lauren DeLeo tally at the 6:04 mark of the first quarter made the score 3-1 in favor of RPI before Siena Wong (Scotts Valley, CA) deposited a goal in the final minute to bring the Brewers to within a goal.
  • RPI controlled the second frame on Saturday, quickly expanding its lead to 7-2 with the first four goals of the period, including three straight tallies from Megan Shay.
  • Billings stopped the RPI run at the 5:23 mark of the second frame, but RPI scored twice in the final 49 seconds of the first half to carry a 9-3 lead into the break.
  • RPI outshot Vassar 19-13 prior to the intermission.
  • The Engineers held a slim 7-6 advantage in draw controls prior to halftime.
  • The two sides alternated the five goals in the third frame with Natalie Daigle (Warwick, NY) and Emily Kallman (Jamestown, RI) scoring for the Brewers.
  • Leading 12-5 after three quarters, RPI allowed just a single goal in the final frame, an Emilia DiLIberto (Allison Park, PA) marker, to seal the win.  
 
For The Brewers
  • Billings scored her team leading 22nd goal of the season and added an assist, a caused turnover and two draw controls.
  • Wright scored and helped on another goal pushing her season point total to 21.
  • DiLiberto led the team with five draw controls and three groundballs and contributed a goal.
  • Catherine Peacock (Stockton, NJ) won four draw controls for the Brewers.
  • Daigle, Kallman and Wong all scored with Daigle picking up a groundball.
  • Lauren Johns (Havertown, PA) turned aside eight shots over three quarters of play in goal.
  • Bree MacMullen (Medford, NJ) made a single save in the final period.
 
For The Engineers
  • Shay and Ella Graf each scored four times with Shay adding four draw controls.
  • DeLeo scored twice and assisted on a goal to go along with a groundball and a draw.
  • Emily Speck posted a goal and two helpers while winning two draws.
  • Audrey Silverman scored a pair of goals.
  • Kira Abdelsayed led the team with three groundballs.
  • Kat Cama caused a pair of turnovers.
  • Jenny Canfield earned the win in goal with 13 stops.
 
Game Statistics
  • RPI finished the day with a slim 32-28 edge in overall shots and a 23-19 advantage in shots on goal.
  • Draw controls went to the Engineers by a 12-11 count.
  • RPI won the groundball battle 14-10.
  • Vassar finished the day 12-for-13 in clearing chances.
  • RPI was 19-for-25 in clears.
