Brewers Score Senior Day Victory Over Skidmore

Santise moves into tie for first on all-time assist list

Poughkeepsie, NY – Led by four points from senior Troy Santise (Washington Township, NJ), the Vassar College Men's Lacrosse team earned a hard fought 10-7 win over #RV/-- Skidmore on Saturday afternoon on Senior Day. With two assists on Saturday, Santise moves into a tie for first on the all-time assist list with 71 career helpers.
 
Saturday's win pushes Vassar to 9-4 overall on the season and to 2-3 In Liberty League play. The nine wins are the most in a season since the Brewers posted 11 victories in 2017. Skidmore, who had been receiving votes in the USILA Poll, slips to 9-5 overall and a 1-4 in conference play.
 
How It Happened
  • Skidmore took a 3-1 lead into the second frame on Saturday after breaking a 1-1 tie with goals from David Muti and Charlie McFadden over the final four minutes of the opening period.
  • After allowing three goals over the first 15 minutes, Vassar surrendered just four goals over the final three quarters of Saturday's tilt.
  • Vassar blanked Skidmore in the second quarter, scoring four times to surge in front 5-3 at the intermission.
  • Nate Johnson (Brentwood, TN), Baker Morton (West Hartford, VT), Gavin Arcuri (Westhampton, NY) and TJ Carl (Rochester, NY) supplied the second quarter goals with Santise assisting on the Carl marker.
  • First half shots on Saturday were even at 18 per side with the Brewers holding a 13-9 edge in shots on goal.
  • Vassar dominated face-offs before halftime, winning seven of the nine contested and posted a 24-13 edge in groundballs.
  • Skidmore came out of halftime with goals from Caleb Lawson and McFadden to knot the score at 5-5 with 12:13 left in the third frame.
  • Vassar came back with a player-up goal from Jon Bradbury (New Rochelle, NY), off a feed from Santise, and another marker from Johnson to regain a 7-5 advantage.
  • The two teams traded the final two goals of the third period, with Vassar taking an 8-6 lead into the fourth quarter after Arcuri set up Santise for his 20th goal of the year with the player advantage at the 4:25 mark of the period.
  • Arcuri set up Santise again to open the fourth period scoring and Morton's second of the game gave Vassar its largest lead of the game at 10-6 with just over nine minutes left to play.
  • Skidmore would get a goal from Nicolo Mazzocca in the final minute to bring the Thoroughbreds to within the final three-goal deficit.
 
For The Brewers
  • Santise finished the day with two goals and two assists, moving into a tie for first on the Vassar all-time list with 71 helpers. Santise, who has amassed 145 points in his career, rounded out the victory with three groundballs.
  • Arcuri closed also closed the day with two goals and two assists while adding a trio of groundballs.
  • Morton posted three points, scoring twice and assisting on a goal, adding three groundballs.
  • Johnson scored twice and forced a turnover.
  • Seniors Bradbury and Ian Zumpano (Towson, MD) each posted a point with Bradbury scoring and Zumpano assisting on a goal.
  • Seniors Jack Palmer (Atlanta, GA) and Solomon Hess (Brewster, NY) each led the team with four caused turnovers to go along with five groundballs apiece
  • Eli Sherman (San Francisco, CA) dominated the face-off 'X', going 15-for-20 with 11 groundballs.
  • Drew Quinn (Garden City, NY) earned the win in goal with 11 stops to go along with a groundball and a caused turnover.
 
For The Thoroughbreds
  • McFadden led the way with three goals and five points for Skidmore.
  • Brian Gonsalves assisted on three goals.
  • Kyle Goodwin caused two turnovers and collected three groundballs.
  • Jack Fitzpatrick won two face-offs and secured three groundballs.
  • Avery Stamps turned aside 14 shots in the loss for Skidmore.
 
Game Statistics
  • Skidmore finished with a 38-36 advantage in overall shots, while Vassar posted a 24-18 edge in shots on target.
  • Vassar controlled face-offs 15-5.
  • Groundballs went to the Brewers by a 41-31 margin.
  • Each team finished 17-for-21 in clearing chances.
