Brewers Cruise Past Bard, 16-4

Annandale-on-Hudson, NY – The Vassar College Women's Lacrosse team picked up its second straight victory Wednesday evening, easing to a 16-4 road win at league rival Bard. Maeve Faigel (North Andover, MA) led nine players with at least two points with a hat trick and an assist against the Raptors.
 
Vassar improves to 3-8 overall on the season and 2-4 in Liberty League play with Wednesday's win, while Bard falls to 1-11 overall and 0-7 in conference action.
 
How It Happened
  • Vassar surged to a 6-0 lead over the opening 7:59 of the contest. Six different players scored over the opening run with Kali Ringler (North Andover, MA) recording an assist.
  • Bard scored two of the final three goals of the first quarter to make the score 7-2 through 15 minutes.
  • Vassar scored the only three goals of the second period to head into the intermission holding an 11-2 advantage.
  • Faigel closed out the second quarter scoring at the 10:41 mark with Lola Wright (Palisades, NJ) and Catherine Peacock (Stockton, NJ) each recording a goal and an assist.
  • Vassar finished the first half with a 26-7 advantage in shots.
  • The Brewers won 10 of the 14 first half draw controls and finished with a 22-13 edge in groundballs.
  • Vassar outscored Bard 6-2 after halftime, posting three goals in both the third and fourth frames.
  • Faigel completed a hat trick with a goal in both the third and fourth quarters and added an assist on a Karina Gyllenhaal (Beverly, MA) goal in the final stanza.
  • Emily Kallman (Jamestown, RI) and Reilly Mulcahy (Arlington, VA) closed out the scoring in the game to give Vassar the final 12-goal cushion.
 
For The Brewers
  • Faigel led the way with a hat trick and four points, adding two groundballs.
  • Mulcahy scored three times and picked up two groundballs.
  • Gyllenhaal scored twice, picked up a groundball and forced a turnover.
  • Siena Wong tallied once and assisted on two goals.
  • Peacock totaled three points and won eight draw controls for the Brewers.
  • Wright, Phoebe Florance (Oakland, CA), Riley Kelly (Syosset, NY) and Kallman all finished with a goal and an assist.
  • First Year Whitney Rowan (Bronxville, NY) led Vassar with three caused turnovers and added four draw controls and two groundballs.
  • Kallman, Kelly, Natalie Daigle (Warwick, NY) and Julia Lawless (Valley Stream, NY) each collected three groundballs with Daigle adding a goal
  • Lauren Johns (Havertown, PA) made the start in goal and earned the win in just over nine minutes of work.
  • Bree MacMullen (Medford, NJ) played nearly 40 minutes and stopped one shot.
  • Cassidy Schuchat (Hopewell Junction, NY) made her collegiate debut and Maddie Busam (Summit, NJ) appeared in a game for the second time this season.
 
For The Raptors
  • Maggy Peyton led the Raptor with two goals and joined Emerson Embrey with a team-high two draw controls.
  • Morgan Ruhle caused a turnover and picked up five groundballs.
  • Lexie Blackburn made 12 saves in goal for the Raptors.

  • Vassar finished the game with a 39-14 advantage in shots. Including a 28-9 edge in shots on goal.
  • Vassar held an 18-6 edge in draw controls in the game.
