Brewers Upend #31 Chapman, 7-2

Vassar closes California trip Saturday

Orange, CA – The #33 Vassar College Women's Tennis team got back into the win column on Friday with an impressive 7-2 victory at #31 Chapman. Friday's victory was the Brewers' third straight over the Panthers and the 10th in 11 meetings since 2007.
 
Vassar evens its overall record at 3-3 with the win on Friday, while Chapman falls to 1-2 through its first three contests of the spring.
 
Doubles
  • Vassar opened up a 3-0 lead after sweeping the doubles competitions against the Panthers.
  • Vassar's top doubles pair of Erin McCusker (Norton, MA) and Macey Dowd (Orinda, CA) evened their record at 3-3 on Friday with a tough 8-6 victory.
  • At second doubles, Iris Li (Palo Alto, CA) and First Year Maddie Kirby (Davidson, NC) continued their impressive start to the season with an 8-5 victory, improving to 4-2 on the year.
  • Ananya Krishnan (Chesterbrook, PA) and Elyse Duley (Charlotte, NC) also moved to 4-2 on the season as a pair after scoring an convincing 8-3 win for the Brewers at the third position.
 
Singles
  • The Brewers were equally impressive in singles play on Friday, taking four of the six matches to secure the victory.
  • McCusker battled her way to a marathon 7-5, 4-6, 1-0 (13-11) win at the top position for Vassar, moving to 5-1 on the season and earning a fifth straight victory.
  • Dowd improved to 4-2 at the second slot for Vassar on Friday, easing to a 6-2, 6-1 victory.
  • Li got back into the win column and matched McCusker for the team-high in singles wins following a 6-2, 6-3 third singles triumph. The victory improves Li to 5-1 on the season.
  • Krishnan moved to 4-2 on the season at fifth singles after outlasting Chapman's Lily Kresser in a 6-7, 6-4, 1-0 (10-7) decision.

  • Vassar rounds out its West Coast trip on Saturday when it takes on Whittier at 9:30 AM PST.
