Women’s Tennis Closes California Trip With Sweep At Whittier

Brewers go 4-1 on West Coast trip

Whittier, CA – The #33 Vassar College Women's Tennis team closed out a successful week-long stay in California on Saturday with a 9-0 sweep at Whittier. Erin McCusker (Norton, MA) and Iris Li (Palo Alto, CA) each won their sixth singles matches of the season in the victory.
 
Vassar moves its record to 4-3 overall on the season, while the Poets fall to 1-4 through five contests.
 
Doubles
  • Vassar set the tone in the doubles competition, dropping just five games over the three matches.
  • The top pair of McCusker and Macey Dowd (Orinda, CA) won their second straight match and moved to 4-3 on the season as a pair with an 8-1 victory.
  • Li and Maddie Kirby (Davidson, NC) improved to 5-2 together after earning an 8-4 win.
  • At third doubles, Ananya Krishnan (Chesterbrook, PA) and Elyse Duley (Charlotte, NC) also improved to 5-2 after blanking their opponents from Whittier, 8-0.
 
Singles
  • McCusker won her sixth straight decision and improved to 6-1 on the season after cruising to a 6-0, 6-2 win at the first position.
  • Dowd won her second straight singles decision and moved to 5-2 on the season after posting an impressive 6-0, 6-1 victory.
  • Li matched McCusker with a team-high sixth singles win after blanking her opponent at third singles, 6-0, 6-0.
  • Kirby continued a strong rookie season on Saturday, besting Whittier's Maci Davis 6-1, 6-4 to move to 4-3 on the season playing at the fourth slot.
  • Krishnan moved to 5-2 on the season in singles play after easing to a 6-0, 6-1 fifth singles victory on Saturday.
  • Duley won her second singles match of the season on Saturday after sweeping Whittier's Jordan Netzsch 6-0, 6-0 at the sixth position.
