Vassar Downs Whittier, Collects Third Straight Victory

Brewers remain unbeaten in California

Whittier, CA – The Vassar College Men's Tennis team won its third straight match and remained unbeaten in three matches in California on Friday with a 7-2 victory at Whittier. Eugene Lee (Chico, CA) and Jay Wong (Hong Kong) each scored their fourth singles wins of the season in the victory.
 
Friday's win pushes Vassar to 4-1 overall on the season, while Whittier remains winless in five outings to start the spring.
 
Doubles
  • Vassar opened a 2-1 lead through doubles play on Friday against the Poets.
  • The top pair of Nolan Kubiak (Neenah, WI) and Ethan Mantell (Hermosa Beach, CA) outlasted their opponents from Whittier and improved to 2-1 on the season with a hard fought 8-7 (7-5) victory.
  • At third doubles, Lee and Pedro Cattaruzzi (Chatham, NJ) evened their record on the season at 2-2 after cruising to an 8-2 win.
 
Singles
  • The Brewers dominated singles play on Friday, taking five of the six decisions in the match.
  • At the top flight, Wong scored a 6-3, 6-1 win for Vassar to move to 4-1 on the season.
  • Lee also improved to 4-1 in singles play on Friday after posting a 6-0, 6-0 sweep at third singles.
  • Benjamin Almquist (Union Pier, MI) won for the first time this season after earning an impressive 6-1, 6-0 win at the fourth position.
  • Kubiak was in action at fifth singles against the Poets and recorded a 6-1, 6-0 triumph for Vassar to move to a perfect 3-0 in singles play on the season.
  • Arnav Agostinho (Brooklyn, NY) was in action for the first time this season on Friday and produced a convincing 6-0, 6-0 victory for the Brewers at sixth singles.
