Men’s Tennis Earns Hard Fought Victory At #37 Chapman

Brewers post fourth straight victory

Orange, CA – The #35 Vassar College Men's Tennis team battled its way to a 5-4 win at #37 Chapman Saturday afternoon, earning its fourth straight victory. Eugene Lee (Chico, CA) clinched the win for the Brewers with a victory at third singles.
 
Winners of four straight matches and unbeaten on its California trip, Vassar improves to 5-1 overall on the season. Chapman drops to 1-2 in the early going of the spring season.
 
Doubles
  • Vassar continued its strong doubles play on Saturday, taking a 2-1 lead heading into singles play.
  • Nolan Kubiak (Neenah, WI) and Ethan Mantell (Hermosa Beach, CA) won their third straight decision together at the top flight after battling to an 8-7 (7-2) victory.
  • The third pairing of Pedro Cattaruzzi (Chatham, NJ) and Lee improved to 3-2 as a unit with a hard fought 8-7 (9-7) triumph.
 
Singles
  • Fernando Bauermeister (Winter Park, FL) won his first singles decision of the season at the second slot, taking a 7-6 (7-5), 6-1 decision for the Brewers.
  • Kubiak remained unbeaten in singles play and moved to a perfect 4-0 on the year after scoring a 6-2, 6-3 win for Vassar.
  • Lee clinched the victory for the Brewers at third singles and improved to 5-1 on the year with a 6-2, 7-6 (7-5) victory.
  • Senior Jay Wong (Hong Kong) battled hard for the Brewers in a tough 1-6, 7-5, 5-7 defeat at the top flight.
  • Benjamin Almquist (Upper Pier, MI) also had a strong showing for Vassar at fourth singles, dropping a tough 0-6, 6-3, 4-6 decision.

  • Vassar will be in search of its fifth straight win on Sunday when it takes on #11 Sewanee in Newport Beach, CA.
