Brewers Score Third Straight Victory

11 different players score a goal in win

Georgetown, TX – Led by hat tricks from Ian Zumpano (Townson, MD) and Colin Patchet (Petaluma, CA) and four assists from Troy Santise (Washington Township, NJ), the Vassar College Men's Lacrosse team posted its third straight victory with an 18-12 road win at Southwestern Thursday night.
 
Thursday's win pushes Vassar to 4-1 overall on the season, while Southwestern drops to 0-5 overall on the season.
 
How It Happened
  • Patchet and Zumpano opened the scoring in the first 5:01 of the contest to give Vassar an early 2-0 lead.
  • A tightly contested first quarter saw the Brewers outscore the Pirates 3-2 over the final 4:59 of the first period. Nate Johnson (Brentwood, TN) tallied with 10 seconds left in the first frame to give the Brewers a 5-4 lead after 15 minutes.
  • The two sides alternated goals until a two-goal run with goals from TJ Carl (Rochester, NY) and Johnson in the final 3:31 of the second quarter sent Vassar into the intermission with a 9-7 lead.
  • Vassar finished the opening 30 minutes with a 23-17 advantage in shots.
  • The Brewers held a 12-6 edge in face-offs in the first half and controlled groundballs, 26-11.
  • After the two sides traded goals to open the third quarter, Vassar broke the game open with a 4-1 scoring run to close out the third quarter.
  • Anderson Eads (Brightwaters, NY) and Baker Morton (West Hartford, VT) highlighted the run with player-up goals as Vassar carried a 14-9 lead into the final period.
  • Gavin Arcuri (Westhampton, NY) opened the fourth quarter scoring with a player-up goal off a feed from Santise to give Vassar a 15-9 lead with 14:32 left in the contest.
  • After Southwestern's Cade McDonald scored back-to-back goals to make the score 15-11, Dylan McFarland (Hickory, NC), Patchet and Jon Bradbury (New Rochelle, NY) scored consecutive goals to push Vassar in front 18-11 with just 2:23 left in the tilt.
  • Southwestern closed out the scoring in the final 90 seconds with McDonald's seventh goal of the evening.
 
For The Brewers
  • Zumpano finished off a four-point night with a hat trick and an assist to go along with three groundballs.
  • Santise totaled four helpers, pushing his team lead in assists to 17 and points to 24.
  • Patchet recorded a hat trick for the Brewers, pushing his goal total to five on the season.
  • Arcuri finished off a big night with a pair of markers, three groundballs and two caused turnovers.
  • Carl scored twice for Vassar and picked up two groundballs.
  • Johnson finished the victory with two tallies and a trio of groundballs.
  • Morton finished a three-point night with a goal and two assists.
  • McFarland and Eads each totaled a goal and an assist for the Brewers.
  • Eli Sherman (San Francisco, CA) won a season-high 18 face-offs and led the team with seven groundballs.
  • Solomon Hess (Brewster, NY) led the team with three caused turnovers and added four groundballs.
  • Drew Quinn (Garden City, NY) earned the victory in goal with seven saves for the Brewers while adding two groundballs.
 
For The Pirates
  • McDonald led the scoring attack with seven goals and eight points while chipping in two groundballs and a caused turnover.
  • Matt Caldwell finished the night with two goals and a pair of assists.
  • Trey Pena won eight face-offs on the night and led the team with four groundballs.
  • Will Walsh closed the night with 17 saves in goal for Southwestern.
