Brewers Double Up Beacons, Run Winning Streak To Four

Carl nets five goals, Quinn makes 16 saves

Georgetown, TX – Led by five goals from TJ Carl (Rochester, NY) and 16 saves from Drew Quinn (Garden City, NY), the Vassar College Men's Lacrosse team pushed its winning streak to four games on Sunday afternoon following an 18-9 non-conference victory over UMass Boston on the campus of Southwestern University.
 
Following their fourth straight victory, the Brewers improve to 5-1 overall on the season and in the process hand the Beacons their first loss of the season and drop them to 4-1 overall.
 
How It Happened
  • A tightly contested opening 15 minutes saw Vassar score four of the seven goals.
  • Anderson Eads (Brightwaters, NY) opened the scoring for Vassar at the 10:28 mark of the first quarter and from there the two teams alternated the final six goals of the frame.
  • Troy Santise (Washington Township, NJ) broke a 3-3 tie with 13 seconds left in the quarter to give the Brewers a 4-3 lead and the advantage for good in the game.
  • Vassar went on to erupt for eight second quarter goals, including the first three of the period.
  • Carl opened the second quarter scoring with Santise scoring back-to-back goals to push the Brewers in front 6-3 with 10:52 left before halftime.
  • After a Sean Daley goal for UMass Boston stopped the run, the Brewers ripped off the next four goals to open an 11-4 advantage.
  • Gavin Arcuri (Westhampton, NY) and Carl each scored twice over the run with Dan Negron (Mahwah, NJ) assisting on a pair of goals.
  • Arcuri completed a second quarter hat trick with 11 seconds left before halftime to send Vassar into the break with a 12-5 lead.
  • UMass Boston held the advantage at halftime in shots 26-21, face-offs 12-6 and groundballs 25-16.
  • Quinn turned aside seven shots before the break.
  • Carl came out of the break with two straight goals, including a player-down tally, to improve the Brewers standing to 14-5.
  • Patrick Egg (Pittstown, NJ) finished off the third period scoring with 5:39 left in the frame to send the Brewers to the final period leading 15-6.
  • The two teams split six fourth quarter goals with Shane O'Hara (Warrenton, VA) and Ian Zumpano (Townson, MD) scoring back-to-back goals to begin the quarter and make the score 17-6.
  • Dylan McFarland (Hickory, NC) tallied the Brewers final goal with 6:34 left before the Beacons scored the last two goals of the contest, the only time they scored consecutive goals in the tilt.
 
For The Brewers
  • Vassar saw 10 different players score a goal and 17 different players record a point.
  • Carl led the way with five goals, adding a groundball and a caused turnover.
  • Santise finished a five-point game with three goals and two assists.
  • Arcuri recorded a hat trick and added an assist.
  • Negron scored a goal and assisted on two markers, adding a groundball.
  • Nate Johnson (Brentwood, TN) assisted on three goals.
  • Eads closed the victory with a goal and an assist for the Brewers.
  • Solomon Hess (Brewster, NY) led the team with four caused turnovers and picked up four groundballs.
  • Kieran Chai-Onn (Rockville, MD) caused a turnover and collected three groundballs.
  • Eli Sherman (San Francisco, CA) won nine face-offs and led the team with five groundballs.
  • Evan Sardina (Boston, MA) went 4-for-4 in face-offs and secured three groundballs.
  • Quinn earned the win in goal, making a season-high 16 saves and adding three groundballs and a caused turnover.
 
For The Beacons
  • Daly led UMass-Boston with five goals and six points.
  • Caesar Hendricks scored once and assisted on two goals to go along with four groundballs.
  • Mic Flynn potted a pair of goals.
  • Patrick Carey caused four turnovers and scooped six groundballs.
  • Matt Lucozzi won 12 face-offs on the day and secured three groundballs.
  • James Boldy suffered the loss in goal, making eight saves.
 
Game Statistics
  • Vassar scored 18 goals in a game for the third straight outing.
  • UMass Boston outshot Vassar by a slim 49-47 margin.
  • Face-offs in the game were even at 15-15 after Vassar won nine of the 12 contested in the second half.
