Men’s Lacrosse Upended At #4/3 RIT

Zumpano totals three points

Rochester, NY – The Vassar College Men's Lacrosse team returned to action on Saturday at #4/3 RIT, dropping a 30-4 decision to the Tigers. Senior Ian Zumpano (Towson, MD) finished the contest with three points for the Brewers.
 
Saturday's loss drops Vassar to 7-3 overall on the season and 1-2 in Liberty League play, while RIT improves to 10-1 overall and 1-1 against conference rivals.
 
How It Happened
  • RIT opened the game up early with five goals in the first 4:50 of the tilt, including a pair of Mike Grace.
  • Vassar got on the board at the 9:39 mark of the first quarter when Nate Johnson (Brentwood, TN) finished off a feed from Zumpano to bring the Brewers to within 5-1.
  • The Tigers finished off the quarter with the final three goals to carry an 8-1 lead into the second stanza.
  • After Zumpano opened the second quarter scoring with his first of the game, RIT ripped off the next eight goals to surge in front 16-2.
  • Zumpano stopped the run with his second goal of the game at the 3:28 mark of the second period, finishing off a feed from TJ Carl (Rochester, NY) to make the score 16-3.
  • Heading into the break, RIT scored three more times to carry a 19-3 lead into the intermission.
  • RIT held a 38-20 advantage in shots at the break.
  • The Tigers dominated first half face-offs, 17-6 and groundballs 27-17.
  • RIT picked right up where it left off after halftime, potting the first six goals of the third quarter to make the score 25-3.
  • Jack Rufa (Mew Milford, CT) got the Brewers back on the board with 3:48 left in the third frame, taking a feed from Patrick Egg (Pittstown, NJ).
  • RIT closed out the scoring in the game with the final five goals, including the only three of the final frame.
 
For The Brewers
  • Zumpano scored half of the Brewers' goals in the game and added an assist.
  • Rufa and Johnson each scored with Carl and Egg each recording an assist.
  • Eli Sherman (San Francisco, CA) won seven face-offs in the game and collected a team-high four groundballs.
  • Matteo Roman (Arlington, VA) caused four turnovers and secured three groundballs.
  • Dan Bader (Forestdale, MA) forced two turnovers and collected three groundballs.
  • Drew Quinn (Garden City, NY) finished with eight stops in goal over 30 minutes of action.
  • Danny Goldman (Commack, NY) also made eight saves in 30 minutes of work.
 
For The Tigers
  • Cameron Gebhardt led the scoring attack with four goals.
  • Clifford Gaston finished a big game with three goals and three assists.
  • Grace and Sam Wallace each scored three times.
  • Jake Erickson scored once and finished a six-point day with five assists.
  • Ethan Spillane won 10 face-offs and picked up six groundballs.
  • Nick Farrell and Allyn French each won eight face-offs.
  • Alex Zborowski earned the win in goal with seven saves.

  • RIT finished with a 65-29 advantage in shots, including a 46-14 edge in shots on goal.
  • Face-offs went to the Tigers, 26-11.
  • RIT finished with a 55-26 advantage in groundballs.
