Vassar Drops Liberty League Decision To Skidmore

DiLiberto scores twice, Johns makes 10 saves

Poughkeepsie, NY – The Vassar College Women's Lacrosse team dropped its sixth straight contest Wednesday evening following a 15-4 conference loss to visiting Skidmore. First Year Emilia DiLiberto (Allison Park, PA) scored twice for the Brewers and senior Lauren Johns (Havertown, PA) finished with 10 saves in goal.
 
Wednesday's loss drops Vassar to 1-7 overall on the season and to 0-3 in conference play, while Skidmore moves to 4-5 overall and 2-1 against league rivals.
 
How It Happened
  • The two teams traded the first two goals of the contest with Jillian Lockwood opening the scoring for the Thoroughbreds and Emma Torkelson (Madison, NJ) answering for the Brewers at the 8:46 mark of the opening period.
  • Following the Torkelson goal, Skidmore scored the final four goals of the first quarter to jump out in front 5-1 after 15 minutes. Lockwood scored twice over the run for the visitors.
  • Skidmore pushed its scoring run to five goals when Maddy Marr scored at the 9:09 mark of the second frame to make the score 6-1.
  • DiLiberto stopped the Skidmore run with her first goal of the game at the 7:35 mark of the second quarter, finishing off a feed from Torkelson.
  • Tess Billings (Deerfield, IL) connected on her 11th goal of the season with just over two minutes left before halftime to make the score 6-3 heading into the break.
  • Vassar outshot Skidmore in the first half 17-14 overall, while Skidmore held a 12-11 edge in shots on goal.
  • The Brewers held a slim 6-5 edge in first half draw controls and an 8-4 advantage in groundballs.
  • Lily Schwartzman opened the third quarter scoring for Skidmore at the 9:40 mark, giving the Thoroughbreds a 7-3 lead and their first goal since the 9:09 mark of the second quarter.
  • Vassar's lone goal of the second half came at the 2:19 mark of the third quarter when DiLiberto's second of the game made the score 8-4.
  • Skidmore closed the game on a 7-0 scoring run, getting two goals apiece from Maddy Marr and Elizabeth Walsh.
 
For The Brewers
  • DiLiberto scored twice for Vassar, giving her 10 tallies on the season. DiLiberto closed the game with two groundballs, two caused turnovers and four draw controls.
  • Torkelson and Billings each finished the game with a goal and an assist with Torkelson adding a groundball and a caused turnover.
  • Kali Ringler (North Andover, MA) registered her second assist of the season and posted a caused turnover.
  • Catherine Peacock (Stockton, NJ) finished with five draw controls.
  • Sloan Shade (Fort Lauderdale, FL) forced three miscues and collected a groundball.
  • Johns turned aside 10 shots, reaching double-figures in saves for the fourth time this season, and picked up two groundballs.
 
For The Thoroughbreds
  • Lockwood and Marr each scored four times for Skidmore with Lockwood adding a pair of draw controls.
  • Phoebe Ross assisted on six goals for Skidmore.
  • Walsh finished with a pair of markers.
  • Schwartzman posted a goal and an assist to go along with a caused turnover.
  • Tess Snyder and Maeve McKinley each won three draws with McKinley adding a goal.
  • Liv Kazanjian earned the win in goal with 14 saves, a pair of caused turnovers and seven groundballs.

  • Skidmore finished the contest with a 31-27 advantage in shots, including a 25-18 edge in shots on goal.
  • The Thoroughbreds held a 13-10 edge in draw controls.
