Poughkeepsie, NY – The Vassar College Women's Lacrosse team was edged by the University of Rochester Friday afternoon by a score of 10-7. Three Brewers finished the contest with two goals, including First Year
Siena Wong (Scotts Valley, CA) who totaled three points.
Friday's loss, Vassar's seventh straight defeat, drops the Brewers to 1-8 overall on the season and 0-4 in Liberty League play. Rochester improves to 5-4 and evens its conference record at 2-2.
How It Happened
- Vassar got off to a quick start, scoring four straight goals after Rochester took a 1-0 lead just 60 seconds into the contest.
- Natalie Daigle (Warwick, NY) evened the score at 1-1 at the 11:35 mark of the opening period and First Year Maeve Faigel (North Andover, MA) gave Vassar a 2-1 lead just under three minutes later.
- Wong tallied for the first time in the game at the 4:46 mark of the opening stanza, finishing off a feed from Phoebe Florance (Oakland, CA) to give the Brewers a 3-1 advantage.
- Tess Billings (Deerfield, IL) potted the Brewers' fourth goal of the game with three seconds left in the quarter to give Vassar a 4-1 lead through 15 minutes of play.
- Rochester stopped Vassar's run to open the second quarter scoring on a Gracie Giannettino tally in the opening minute of the period.
- The Giannettino marker started a 5-0 run for the Yellow Jackets heading into halftime, highlighted by two goals and an assist from Giannettino.
- Leading 6-4 at the break, Rochester held an 18-10 advantage in shots and an 11-7 edge in groundballs.
- Vassar won seven of the 12 draw controls contested prior to the intermission.
- Rochester pushed its scoring run to seven goals with back-to-back goals from Grace Crochiere and Anna Rogers to push the lead to 8-4 with just over eight minutes left in the third quarter.
- Vassar stopped the run and got on the board for the first time since late in the first quarter on Daigle's second off the game with 4:52 left in the third frame.
- Wong's second of the game 35 seconds later brought Vassar to within 8-6 with just over four minutes left in the period.

- Rochester would score the only goal of the fourth quarter, Giannettino's fourth of the game, at the 13:35 mark to the give the Yellow Jackets the final three goal cushion.

- Lauren Johns (Havertown, PA) suffered the loss in goal, turning aside 10 shots for the Brewers.
