Canton, NY – The Vassar College Women's Lacrosse team suffered its fifth straight loss Sunday afternoon following a 14-7 road conference defeat at St. Lawrence.
Kali Ringler (North Andover, MA) led the scoring attack with a hat trick, while First Year
Emilia DiLiberto (Allison Park, PA) led the team with eight draw controls.
Sunday's loss drops Vassar to 1-6 overall on the season and 0-2 in Liberty League play, while St. Lawrence moves to 1-5 overall and 1-1 within the conference.
How It Happened
- St. Lawrence jumped out to a 4-0 lead through 15 minutes of play.
- Phoebe Spaeth opened the scoring at the 12:45 mark for the Saints and Jessica LaPlaca closed out the first period scoring with a tally with just over two minutes left in the frame.
- Vassar got on the board at the 9:33 mark of the second frame on Ringler's first of the game and Ringler's second of the contest with just under five minutes left before halftime made the score 5-2.
- After Morgan Arakelian scored with the player-advantage with 28 seconds left before the half, Emma Torkelson (Madison, NJ) answered with six seconds left in the second quarter while the Brewers were a player down to make the score 6-3 in favor of St. Lawrence at the break.
- St. Lawrence finished the first half with a 17-6 advantage in shots.
- Vassar held the edge in draw controls prior to the break at 7-3.
- The Brewers pulled to within two goals twice in the third frame, getting the score to 7-5 on a Maeve Faigel (North Andover, MA) marker at the 12:55 mark and then 8-6 on a DiLiberto tally with 6:24 left in the period.
- St. Lawrence got the final goal of the third quarter to make the score 9-6 and scored the first four goals of the final frame to open a 13-6 advantage.
- Liz Evans scored twice for the Saints over the fourth quarter run with the player-advantage.
- Faigel scored for the second time in the game with just over two minutes left to play before Neve Ley tallied for the Saints in the final minute to make the score the final 14-7 decision.
For The Brewers
- Ringler tallied three times to lead the Brewers and finished with a groundball and a caused turnover.
- Faigel totaled three points on two goals and an assist, adding a caused turnover.
- Torkelson finished with a goal and an assist while picking up four groundballs, causing two turnovers and winning a draw control.
- DiLiberto scored once and led all players in the game with eight draw controls.
- Olivia Del Tatto (Bayville, NY) scooped three groundballs for the Brewers.
- Lauren Johns (Havertown, PA) suffered the loss in goal, making 11 saves.
For The Saints
- Arakelian led the way with four points on three goals and an assist to go along with two groundballs.
- Evans totaled also scored three times and helped on another goal.
- Ley scored three times and won a pair of draw controls.
- LaPlaca scored twice and added an assist.
- Ellie Camp potted two goals and won a draw.
- Kelsey O'Brien finished the game with two caused turnovers and four groundballs.
- Courtney Lynn earned the victory in goal, turning aside three shots.
