Rochester, NY – The #35 Vassar College Men's Tennis team finished off a busy weekend with a tight 5-4 loss at the University of Rochester Sunday afternoon. The third doubles team of
Pedro Cattaruzzi (Chatham, NJ) and
Eugene Lee (Chico, CA) won for the third straight outing for the Brewers.
Sunday's defeat drops Vassar to 6-4 overall on the season while Rochester improves to 6-1.
Doubles
- Rochester took two of the three doubles matches to take a 2-1 lead into singles play.
- The third pair of Cattaruzzi and Lee outlasted Rochester's Kevin Shukla and David Riccio 8-7 (7-4).
- The top pair of Nolan Kubiak (Neenah, WI) and Ethan Mantell (Hermosa Beach, CA) dropped a tight 8-6 decision.
- Fernando Bauermeister (Winter Park, FL) and Henry Zhang (Zhengzhou, China) suffered a hard fought 8-5 defeat at the second slot.
Singles
- The top four singles positions on Sunday went the full three sets.
- Senior Jay Wong (Hong Kong) improved to 5-5 on the season after battling to a 2-6, 6-2, 6-4 win at the top position.
- Mantell got back into the win column at the fourth position, rallying for a 3-6, 6-4, 6-4 victory over Rahul Ravi.
- Zhang continued a strong rookie season on Sunday, producing a 6-0, 6-2 sixth singles win to improve to 4-3 on the season.
What's Next
- Vassar returns to action on March 30 when it welcomes league rival St. Lawrence to Poughkeepsie.
- Rochester is off until it hosts Hobart on April 4.
