Poughkeepsie, NY – The #38 Vassar College Men's Tennis played outdoors at the Richard L. Cretella Tennis Center for the first time this spring Saturday afternoon and earned a hard fought 6-3 victory over visiting St. Lawrence. The Brewers rallied from a 2-1 deficit with five singles wins to secure the victory.
Saturday's win moves Vassar to 7-4 overall on the season and to 2-1 in conference play, while St. Lawrence drops to 6-6 overall and 2-1 against league foes.
Doubles
- St. Lawrence earned wins in two of the three doubles matches, posting victories at the first and third positions.
- The Brewers' second pair of Fernando Bauermeister (Winter Park, FL) and Henry Zhang (Zhengzhou, China) picked up an impressive 8-2 win for the Brewers.
Singles
- After trailing 2-1 following doubles play, the Brewers dominated the singles competition, winning five of the six matches.
- Jay Wong (Hong Kong) cruised to a 6-1, 6-3 win at the top flight to improve to 6-5 on the season.
- Bauermeister won for just the second time this season after earning a 6-3, 6-1 victory at the second slot for Vassar.
- Eugene Lee (Chico, CA) continued a strong rookie season with an impressive 6-1, 6-1 third singles win, moving to 8-3 on the season.
- Benjamin Almquist (Union Pier, MI) earned his third singles win of the season following a 6-4, 6-0 win at fourth singles.
- Zhang competed at the fifth flight for the second time this season and cruised to a 6-1, 6-1 win to move to 5-3 on the season.
What's Next
- Vassar returns to non-conference play on April 7 when it travels to the U.S. Coast Guard Academy.
- St. Lawrence hosts RIT on April 6.
