Geneva, NY – The #35 Vassar College Men's Tennis team suffered a hard fought 5-4 Liberty League loss Saturday afternoon at #34 Hobart. The Brewers swept the doubles competitions on Saturday and First Year
Eugene Lee (Chico, CA) picked up the Brewers' singles victory.
Saturday's loss drops Vassar to 6-3 overall and 1-1 in Liberty League play, while Hobart jumps to 6-3 and 1-0 in conference action.
Doubles
- Vassar opened a 3-0 lead following doubles play against the Statesmen.
- The Brewers' top pair of Nolan Kubiak (Neenah, WI) and Ethan Mantell (Hermosa Beach, CA) improved to 4-3 on the season after outlasting Hobart's top unit 8-7 (7-2).
- At the second slot, Fernando Bauermeister (Winter Park, FL) and Henry Zhang (Zhengzhou, China) won their second straight match and moved to 4-3 with a hard fought 8-7 (7-4) victory.
- Pedro Cattaruzzi (Chatham, NJ) and Lee moved their season record to 5-3 with an impressive 8-2 victory.
Singles
- Lee pushed the team-high in singles wins to seven and moved to 7-2 on the season after battling to a 6-1, 2-6, 6-4 at the third position.
- Bauermeister suffered a tough three-set loss on Saturday, suffering a 6-1, 3-6, 1-6 defeat to Hobart's Nick Fischer.
- Zhang also dropped a hard fought 2-6, 6-0, 1-6 decision to Nick Grosso at the sixth position.
- Mantell battled hard for the Brewers at the fifth slot following a 4-6, 6-7 (4-7) loss.
What's Next
- Vassar will look to get back into the win column Sunday afternoon at Rochester.
- Hobart hosts league rival Ithaca on March 29.
