Women’s Lacrosse Clipped By Endicott

Torkelson nets five goals,

Poughkeepsie, NY – The Vassar College Women's Lacrosse team dropped its fourth straight contest on Wednesday, falling in a hard fought 14-12 decision to visiting Endicott. Emma Torkelson (Madison, NJ) led the scoring attack for the Brewers with five goals.
 
Wednesday's loss drops Vassar to 1-5 overall on the season, while the Gulls improve to 3-4.
 
How It Happened
  • Vassar got off to a fast start, scoring the first three goals of the contest.
  • Tess Billings (Deer Field, IL) opened the scoring at the 12:05 mark with goals from Torkelson and Kali Ringler (North Andover, MA) pushing the lead to 3-0.
  • Leah Black scored the Gulls' first two goals of the game around another tally from Torkelson to make the score 4-2 through 15 minutes.
  • Endicott knotted the score at 4-4 with 9:01 left before halftime, but Vassar answered with goals from Emilia DiLberto (Allison Park, PA) to move back in front 6-4.
  • Emerson Clark brought the Gulls back to within a goal before Reilly Mulcahy (Arlington, VA) closed out the first half scoring with 33 seconds left before halftime to send Vassar into the break leading 7-5.
  • Vassar held a 21-12 advantage in shots at the intermission to go along with a 9-7 edge in groundballs.
  • First half draw controls were even at 7-7.
  • Coming out of half, Endicott outscored Vassar 4-0 in the third quarter to pull in front for the first time in the game.
  • Kiana Napolitano evened the score at 7-7 with 11:11 left in the quarter before Clark gave the Gulls the lead for good in the game at 8-7 with 5:26 to play in the period.
  • Following a weather delay, Jaira Paine scored with 2:01 left in the third quarter to push the lead to 9-7 heading to the fourth quarter.
  • Billings halted the Endicott scoring run with the first goal of the fourth quarter.
  • Endicott came back with the next three tallies to move in front 12-8 on another Napolitano marker with 11:09 left in the contest.
  • Napolitano struck again with 4:19 left to give the Gulls a 14-10 lead.
  • Vassar finished the scoring with goals from Torkelson and Ringler in the final 2:19 to bring the Brewers to within the final 14-12 decision.
 
For The Brewers
  • Torkelson led the way for Vassar with five goals to go along with two groundballs.
  • Ringler and Billings each scored twice with Ringler adding four caused turnovers.
  • Mulcahy posted three points after scoring twice and adding an assist while adding four draw controls.
  • DiLiberto led all players with nine draw controls and finished the tilt with a goal, four caused turnovers and four groundballs.
  • Julia Lawless (Valley Stream, NY) collected three groundballs and caused two turnovers.
  • Emma Larson (Ramsey, NJ) secured three groundballs and forced a miscue.
  • Lola Wright (Palisades, NY) won three draw controls.
  • Lauren Johns (Havertown, PA) made eight saves in goal for Vassar and finished with two groundballs.
 
For The Gulls
  • Napolitano finished with a hat trick and four points.
  • Paine scored twice and assisted on two goals to go along with two draws.
  • Black and Clark each scored three times.
  • Bailey Sheehan finished with a goal and two assists.
  • Maggie Holt led the team with six draw controls.
  • Mia Smith closed a strong game with a goal, three groundballs, three draw controls and two caused turnovers.
  • Lydia Atkins picked up the win in goal with 12 saves.

  • Vassar finished the day with a 36-27 advantage in shots and a 24-22 edge in shots on goal.
