Troy, NY – The Vassar College Men's Lacrosse team had its four-game winning streak stopped at #7/7 RPI Saturday afternoon after falling to the Engineers 18-10.
TJ Carl (Rochester, NY) led the scoring attack with five goals, with
Jon Bradbury (New Rochelle, NY) finishing the day with four points.
Saturday's loss drops Vassar to 5-2 overall on the season and 0-1 in Liberty League play, while RPI improves to a perfect 8-0 overall and 1-0 in conference competition.
How It Happened
- After the two teams went scoreless for nearly 12 minutes to start the game, RPI tallied three times over the final 3:31 of the first quarter to open a 3-0 lead.
- RPI went on to erupt for 11 goals in the second frame, including the first eight of the quarter.
- Carl got the Brewers on the board with his first of the game at the 6:11 mark of the second period off a feed from Declan McGrath (Watertown, CT).
- The Engineers came back with the final three tallies of the first half in the final 4:21 of the second quarter to carry a 14-1 lead into the intermission.
- RPI outshot Vassar over the first 30 minutes 44-6.
- The Engineers controlled face-offs prior to the break 16-1 and groundballs 33-10.
- Vassar came out of the break and outscored RPI 3-2 in the third quarter, getting player-up goals from both Dylan McFarland (Hickory, NC) and Anderson Eads (Brightwaters, NY) to close to within 16-4 with 15 minutes left to play.
- The Brewers closed the contest with six of the final eight goals to finish off the scoring in the game.
- Patrick Egg (Pittstown, NJ), Carl and Bradbury scored consecutive goals over the opening 2:04 of the fourth period to make the score 16-7.
- Bradbury and Carl combined for another three-goal run before a Trey Berry goal for RPI in the closing seconds made the score the final 18-10 margin.
