Baseball Falls Late to Puget Sound

Vassar will conclude its Pacific Northwest trip against Lewis & Clark this weekend

TACOMA, WA - The Vassar College Baseball team continued its Pacific Northwest trip on Wednesday night as the Brewers fell 12-7 to Puget Sound in non-conference action. Vassar's record falls to 2-6 on the season while the Loggers improve to 8-7 overall.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Vassar struck first in the top of the first inning as senior Reid Lapekas, first year Noah Stockman and junior Daniel Laderman all drew walks to load the bases with two outs. Junior Bradley Markind came through with a two RBI single to left center to give the Brewers a 2-0 lead.
  • Puget Sound responded in the bottom of the inning as Drew Kamihara led off the inning with a solo home run to left field to cut the lead in half.
  • The Loggers took its first lead with three runs in the second as Kahiau Teruya came across to score on a throwing error and Davis Franklin knocked in two runs with a single to center to make it 4-2.
  • Puget Sound expanded its lead to four in the fourth as Nathan Blocher scored on a pickoff play before Teruya doubled home Zach Robman with two outs.
  • The Brewers scratched out a run in the fifth as junior Birch Herring-Jackson drew a leadoff walk and moved to second on a base hit from Lapekas. Laderman drove in Herring-Jackson with one out to cut the lead to 6-3.
  • Vassar drew even at six in the sixth when junior Michael Lee singled and junior Finn Kaplan-Moore was hit by a pitch with one out. Sophomore Jensen Bergman blasted a triple to center field to plate both runs and scored on a passed ball to tie the game.
  • The Loggers answered in the bottom of the inning as Teruya launched a two-run homer to score Brock Makishima and regain a two run lead.
  • The Brewers knocked the lead down to a run in the seventh following a walk from Markind and a single from Lee before pinch-hitter senior Jack Silvera knocked in Markind to trim the lead to 8-7.
  • Puget Sound put together a big inning in the seventh as Charlie Deggeller and Ryan Spero both scored on balks before a two-RBI single from Makishima put the Loggers ahead 12-7 after seven complete.
FOR THE BREWERS
  • Lapekas finished 3-for-4 on the day with a run scored while Bergman and Markind each had a hit and two runs batted in.
  • Lee added two hits and a HBP along with Silvera knocking in a run with a hit.
  • First year Rohan Mishra took the loss as he went four innings, allowing six runs (five earned), eight hits, five walks and struck out one.

  • Vassar will conclude its Pacific Northwest trip with a three-game series with Lewis and Clark beginning on Friday at 3:00 p.m. (Pacific)
  • Puget Sound will travel to NWC rival Willamette for a three-game set beginning on Saturday afternoon.
