#6 Men's Volleyball Closes the Morgan Classic With Sweep of Endicott

Vassar bounces back to sweep the Gulls 25-22, 25-16, 25-14

SPRINGFIELD, MA - The #6 Vassar College Men's Volleyball team hit a blistering .585 to lead a bounce back victory with a strong 25-22, 25-16, 25-14 sweep of Endicott in the second match of the International Volleyball Hall of Fame Morgan Classic on Saturday evening. The Brewers record improves to 7-2 overall while the Gulls fall to 4-4 on the season.

FIRST SET
  • Vassar took an early 7-3 advantage on a kill from senior Vaughn Ramsey followed by a block from Ramsey and sophomore Tristan Christofferson to extend the lead to 10-6.
  • Endicott got within two at 14-12 after three kills from Aidan Iacovelli and then tied the set up at 15 on an ace from Iacovelli.
  • The Brewers answered with four of the next five points on kills from juniors Billy Fan and Gavin Akoto along with a block from Akoto and senior Jacob Kim to force an Endicott timeout.
  • Two straight kills from Iacovelli reduced the lead to 24-22 before a winner from Ramsey clinched the opening set.
SECOND SET
  • After a Dean Warner kill put Endicott within 3-2, Vassar scored the next eight points, led by blocks from Christofferson, junior Payne Lounsbery and Ramsey.
  • The lead grew to 16-7 on a winners from Kim, Akoto and senior Tobias Clark before a Jake Laborde service ace cut the lead to eight.
  • Endicott got within 22-15 on a kill from Logan Pohl until Vassar took the final two points of the set on blocks from senior Colin Jones and Lounsbery to earn the set win.
THIRD SET
  • Following a service error that knotted the set at four, Vassar scored five straight on two kills from Ramsey along with an ace and winner from Kim.
  • The Brewers advantage grew to 14-8 after back-to-back kills from Jones.
  • Back-to-back kills from sophomore Eli Lee gave the Brewers a double-digit lead at 21-10.
  • Vassar completed the sweep follwoing a Endicott service error to take the set 25-14.
FOR THE BREWERS
  • Kim, who was named to the All-Tournament Team, recorded 11 kills while hitting an incredible .846 while adding 17 assists, three aces and four digs.
  • Ramsey finished with 10 kills and five blocks while Akoto and Jones each added four winners.
  • Lounsbery registered four kills, six blocks and four digs along with Christofferson adding two kills and six blocks.
  • Senior AJ Erickson recorded 17 assists and first year Tucker Shearn lifted a team-high six digs.
FOR THE GULLS
  • Iacovelli tallied 11 kills and two aces along with Warner finishing with 10 kills and seven digs.
  • LaBorde added five kills and four digs while Pohl buried four winners.
  • Gavin Emenaker handed out a match-high 28 assists and lifted two digs.
UP NEXT
  • Vassar will return home on Saturday for a tri-match with Ramapo and Kean beginning at 11:00 a.m. at Kenyon Hall.
  • Endicott heads to Regis on Tuesday evening.
