Brewers Best Owls In Home Opener, 14-9

Arcuri pots four goals, Hess causes six turnovers

Poughkeepsie, NY – First Year attack Gavin Arcuri (Westhampton, NY) scored four goals and registered five points and senior defender Solomon Hess (Brewster, NY) forced six turnovers Wednesday evening as the Vassar College Men's Lacrosse team topped visiting Keene State 14-9 in its 2024 home opener.
 
With the victory, Vassar improves to 2-1 through three contests, while Keene State remains winless in four outings.
 
How It Happened
  • After Jack Ansart potted a player-up goal to open the scoring, Vassar ripped off three straight tallies to grab a 3-1 advantage.
  • Arcuri sparked the early three-goal surge for the Brewers with a goal and an assist.
  • Leading by two goals, Vassar saw Keene State knot the score at 3-3 heading into the second quarter.
  • Jaheim Lancaster and Colby Quiet scored in the final 64 seconds of the opening frame to bring the Owls even through 15 minutes.
  • After the two teams split the first two goals of the second stanza, Vassar broke a 4-4 tie with four straight goals to open an 8-4 advantage.
  • Arcuri started the run with back-to-back goals just 40 seconds apart with Troy Santise (Washington Township, NJ) and Colin Patchet (Petaluma, CA) adding the other two goals.
  • Keene State answered back again with the final two tallies of the half to cut its disadvantage to 8-6 heading into the intermission.
  • Andrew Miller and Ansart scored late second quarter goals to bring the Owls to within two.
  • Vassar outshot Keene State 28-17 in the opening 30 minutes and finished with a 25-15 edge in groundballs.

For The Brewers
  • Arcuri continued a strong start to his collegiate career with four goals, moving his team lead in markers to nine. Arcuri, who is second on the team with 13 points, added a trio of groundballs in the win.
  • Carl closed out a hat trick, scoring on each of his three shots on goal.
  • Santise finished off a big night with a goal and four assists, pushing his team lead in helpers to 10 and his team standard in points to 15. Santise rounded out Wednesday's win with three groundballs.
  • Ian Zumpano (Towson, MD), Negron, Patchet and Eads all closed the night with a goal and an assist for the Brewers.
  • Hayden Stoltzfoos (Tampa, FL) assisted on a pair of goals.
  • Hess finished off a strong night on defense with six caused turnovers and four groundballs.
  • Jordan Scherer (Tarrytown, NY) scooped four groundballs and forced a turnover.
  • Eli Sherman (San Francisco, CA) won 14 face-offs for the Brewers and picked up a team-high five groundballs.
  • Drew Quinn (Garden City, NY) earned the win in goal with 11 saves to go along with four groundballs.
 
For The Owls
  • Ansart led the scoring attack with a hat trick.
  • Lancaster closed the night with a goal and an assist.
  • Colby Cala caused three turnovers and picked up three groundballs.
  • Colby Quiet scored a goal, won five face-offs and collected six groundballs.
  • Charlie Giuliotti was busy in goal, turning aside 18 Vassar shots on the night.

  • Vassar finished the night with a 53-30 advantage in attempts, including a 32-20 edge in shots on goal.
